LASUSTECH Establishes New Directorate, Names Dr Steven Adesemoye as Pioneer Director

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has appointed Dr Steven Anu’ Adesemoye, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, as its pioneer Director of Advancement and Internationalisation.

The appointment establishes the university’s new Directorate of Advancement and Internationalisation, a strategic office created to deepen global partnerships, attract international staff and students, and strengthen LASUSTECH’s position as a globally competitive institution. In his new role, Dr Adesemoye will champion the university’s vision by fostering collaborations with international organisations, corporate partners, and academic institutions, while promoting the university’s research and academic excellence.

Speaking on his appointment, Dr Adesemoye described the opportunity as both an honour and a responsibility.

“I am deeply honoured to take up this assignment and grateful to the Vice-Chancellor for his belief in me. Building an office from the ground up is a rare privilege, and I intend to use it to open doors for LASUSTECH on the world stage,” he said.

He added that his immediate priorities include establishing international academic partnerships, attracting international staff and students, and driving collaborations that will facilitate exchange programmes and joint research initiatives.

Dr Adesemoye brings a wealth of academic and industry experience to the position. He most recently served as Head of the Department of Mass Communication, where he was credited with raising the department’s academic standards. He holds a doctorate from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and is a Fellow of the Business Journalism Professors Programme at the Donald W. Reynolds National Centre for Business Journalism, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arizona State University.

His record at LASUSTECH reflects a strong commitment to innovation and partnership. He previously served as Team Lead for Digital and Creative Enterprise, working closely with the Vice-Chancellor on strategic initiatives. He also led the university’s Digital Literacy Skills Programme for the Ikorodu trading community as part of LASUSTECH’s corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at strengthening its town-and-gown relationship.

Before joining academia, Dr Adesemoye built a successful career in the media industry, serving as Chief Operating Officer and TV Content Director at Digital Interactive Media and Origin 8 Format. During this period, he directed reality television productions in Nigeria and Ghana, as well as documentary and distance-learning drama projects for international health communication programmes.

The appointment reflects LASUSTECH’s broader commitment to strengthening research, innovation, and international collaboration as the university continues to expand its global footprint and build strategic partnerships with academic institutions and industry stakeholders worldwide.
