NELFUND To Resume Upkeep Disbursement, NBAN Confirms NANS Announcement

After months of complaints over unpaid upkeep allowances, beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) nationwide are responding with cautious optimism to a new announcement by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that disbursement will soon resume, with NBAN on Friday confirming progress in the payment process. 

While some students expressed relief and hope, others said they will only believe it when the money reflects in their accounts, citing months of delay and unfulfilled promises.

The NELFUND Beneficiaries Association of Nigeria (NBAN) confirmed the development on Friday, July 11, 2026, in a statement signed by its National President, Aminu Aliyu Ahmad. NBAN disclosed that there has been renewed progress in the disbursement process and expressed optimism that the long-delayed payments will resume shortly.

According to the Association, eligible beneficiaries should expect to receive all the months owed to them once disbursement recommences. The update comes after NBAN received numerous complaints and enquiries from students across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education who said the delay had worsened their financial situation on campus.

NBAN commended beneficiaries for their patience, understanding, and maturity despite the hardship, noting that many students had to make difficult sacrifices while waiting.The Association said it remains in active engagement with the Federal Government, NELFUND management, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the process is concluded without further delay.

In the meantime, NBAN urged students to remain calm and to continue monitoring their bank accounts and NELFUND dashboards for updates. It also warned beneficiaries against unverified payment claims and rumors circulating on social media, advising them to rely only on information released through official channels and credible stakeholder communications.

Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of students, NBAN stressed that its priority is to ensure every eligible beneficiary receives the full support provided under the Federal Government’s Student Loan Scheme. The Association further appreciated the Federal Government, the management of NELFUND, and other stakeholders for their efforts toward the successful implementation of the initiative, expressing confidence that the current payment process would soon be concluded successfully.
