There Is Still Room For Appeal - CSO to Disqualified SUG Aspirants

Eke Van Victor With several candidates of the forthcoming SUG elections disqualified by the screening committee last Thursday, just one week to the election, the question on everyone's lips has been; will the SUG presidential candidate be unopposed? When contacted, Israel Olanloye, the presidential aspirant disqualified for security reasons said he was not ready to back out on the race he has begun. He absolved himself of any wrong accusations saying "I have never been involved in any domestic or physical violence in the polytechnic. Moreover, I have never been invited nor had any negative records with the security personnel on campus even during my ND days".

LASPOSUG: Management lifts ban on electoral activities

The Management of the Lagos State Polytechnic has lifted ban on her students’ union electoral activities for the 2018/2019 Academic Session. As gathered from the Information and Public Relations Unit, electoral activities into various offices of the Students’ Union Executives, Legislative and Judicial arms have been approved to continue. The management however, released tentative timetable for the election which is as follows: Release of Nomination Forms/Lifting of Ban- 22nd June, 2018 Submission of Nomination Forms – 25th June – 6th July, 2018 Release of Screened Results / Appeals from Contestants- 6th-9th July, 2018 Electioneering campaigns - 29th June – 17th July, 2018 Manifesto Presentation - 18th July, 2018 Election/Declaration of Election Results- 19th July, 2018.        The offices open for election include; President, Vice President I, Vice President II, General Secretary, Asst. The Lagos State Polytechnic Student Union Executive is in the news again for the wrong reasons. This time around, it has to do with a more serious financial crime unlike they had formerly. Rumours has it that over 1million was alleged to have disappeared into private pockets of some executives Recall that on Saturday,14th of April, 2018, information gathered alleged that Comr. LASPOTECH students endorse Ambode for second term

As the heat of the 2019 general elections gets hotter, one of the aspirants who seem to have the best of the moment is the Lagos state Governor, Akinwummi Ambode. Even without starting campaign officially, different sector of the Lagos economy have endorsed him for a second term due to his brilliant works in the state. One of the latest group to join this trend is the Student Union Government of the Lagos state Polytechnic. A conference in regards to this was held today Tuesday, 3 rd of April, 2018. OUR STAND It so disturbing each time to see the LASPOTECH union Government, on social media platforms serving as topic for discussion and usually not for positive reasons. This is as a result of the persistent and seemingly unending internal crises that has continued to rock the Union. It seems for each step taken forward, three are taken backwards and this has prevented them from achieving the goals for which it was established and has turned it into a laughing stock among its peers and the general public. There’s never been a time in the recent dispensation of the Lagos State Polytechnic Student Union Government (LASPOSUG) that the issue of suspending and denial of suspension of its top officials is more pronounced than it is now.
