By Adenuga Toheeb Ayoola The Funmi Babington-Ashaye Foundation has awarded ₦100,000 each to five outstanding students of the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH),  on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the College of Applied Social Sciences Conference Hall, in recognition of their academic excellence. Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, the Dean, College of Applied Social Sciences, Prof. Olumuyiwa Olamade, appreciated the Foundation for its support, noting that the award would encourage the beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies. The Head of Department, Dr. Mrs. Adeola Banjo, also commended the Foundation for sustaining the initiative over the years. By Irikefe Oghenetega Victor Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) on Monday received a National Universities Commission (NUC) resource verification team as part of the university’s bid to unbundle the Mass Communication and Computer Science programmes. The visit forms part of the NUC’s standard procedure to ensure that universities meet the required academic and infrastructural standards before expanding their programme offerings. Under the proposed unbundling, Mass Communication is expected to be split into three distinct programmes: Broadcasting, Journalism and Media Studies, and Public Relations, while Computer Science will be divided into Software Engineering and Cybersecurity. By Igwe Grace Chiamaka  Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has approved an increase in the housing loan available to members of staff to help them cope with the country's rising cost of living.  The decision was approved by the university's Executive Management Committee (EMC) during its recent meeting. Under the new arrangement, staff on CONUASS/CONUNASS 5–7 and 13–15 will now receive housing loans ranging from ₦3 million to ₦5 million, up from the previous ₦1.5 million to ₦3 million.  Similarly, staff on CONUASS/CONUNASS 3–4 and 11–12 will now access loans of ₦2 million to ₦3 million, compared to the previous ₦1 million to ₦1.5 million. Staff on CONUASS/CONUNASS 1–2 and 6–9 will receive between ₦1.5 million and ₦2 million, up from ₦900,000 to ₦1.5 million, while CONUNASS 2–5 will now receive ₦700,000 to ₦1 million, instead of the previous ₦500,000 to ₦700,000.
