Ncha Success, a 100-level Hospitality and Tourism Management student of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), has emerged winner of the 2026 Build Afrika Hospitality and Tourism Career Contest, following an impressive presentation on strategic communication and destination branding.
The Build Afrika Hospitality and Tourism Career Contest is aimed at fostering innovation, leadership, and career development among young professionals and students within Africa's hospitality and tourism industry. Success secured the top position after competing against contestants from various institutions, earning praise from organizers for her confidence, innovation, and clear vision for the hospitality and tourism sector.
Her winning presentation, titled “Rebranding Africa Through Strategic Communication,” emphasized the use of storytelling, digital media, strategic partnerships, and destination branding to reshape global perceptions of Africa and attract tourists and investors to the continent.
Speaking in an interview, Success attributed her participation to her passion for communication and her desire to contribute to the growth of Africa's hospitality and tourism industry.
According to her, the competition provided a platform to share ideas beyond the classroom and engage with industry professionals. “I viewed it as an opportunity to share my ideas, learn from professionals, and demonstrate that students can contribute meaningful solutions to the industry,” she said.
Success disclosed that preparation for the contest involved extensive research, planning, and repeated rehearsals. She noted that balancing the competition with academic commitments, particularly examination preparations, was one of the major challenges she faced. However, despite the challenge, she remained focused and disciplined throughout the process.
She further explained that the presentation stood out because it focused not only on tourism promotion but also on changing narratives about Africa through effective communication strategies.
Additionally, she said the victory strengthened her confidence and inspired her to pursue excellence in her academic and professional pursuits. “Winning this competition has shown me that my ideas have value and has encouraged me to continue learning and developing my skills,” she stated.
Furthermore, Success encouraged her fellow students not to allow their level of study to limit their ambitions, stating that they should take advantage and maximize any academic opportunities that come your way.
