LASUSTECH Fee Hike: Management Reduces Certificate fee

Safiu Kehinde The management of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (formerly Lagos State Polytechnic) has finally reduced the increased certificate fee   from #30,000 to #10,000 after several backlash from the Polytechnic students in the institution over the controversial increment. As contained in a statement signed by the University's registrar, David Semawon Ogunbe, the management decided to review the sudden 500 percent increment following complaints tendered by the Polytechnic’s Students Union Government and the intervention of the Vice Chancellor who submitted that the increment should not be more than 100 percent of the initial amount. LASPOTECH to Commence 2018/2019 Indigeneship Verification Exercise for Lagos State Indigenous Candidates.

The management of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu has announced dates for the verification exercise for indigenes of Lagos State who chose the Polytechnic in the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)   for the admission exercise. The exercise for candidates applying for National Diploma(ND) in the institution will commence with registration between Monday 23rd July and Sunday 29th July, 2018. Verification for this category will hold on Thursday 31st July,   2018. Similarly, the exercise for candidates applying for the Higher National Diploma(HND) commences registration between Wednesday August 22nd and Thursday August 28th 2018. Verification for this category will hold on Thursday 30th August, 2018.

LASPOTECH Management Announces Schedule for 2018/2019 National Diploma Admission Screening Exercise

Amosu Jeremiah The Management of the Lagos State Polytechnic has on Friday 29th June 2018 announced the 2nd -22nd of July as dates for the 2018/2019 National Diploma (ND) Admission Screening Exercise. Eligible candidates who chose Lagos State Polytechnic in 2018/2019 UTME and obtained the minimum UTME score of 150 in addition to having the required relevant 0’level credit as contained in the JAMB Brochure are hereby invited to participate in the screening exercise. According to the management, candidates are expected to make an online payment of ₦2,000 (Two Thousand Naira Only), this is inclusive of administrative, bank and online charges. Candidates are advised to visit the Polytechnic’s website- www.my.laspotech.edu.ng and follow the instructions as stated in the site in order to make online payment, fill in their details and print out their post screening result. Eligible candidate are finally urged not obtain their form on or before 11:59pm of 22nd July, 2018...

Like the popular saying goes "Half bread is better than none" Remittance is a transfer of money by a foreign worker to an individual in their home country. Money sent home by migrants competes with international aid as one of the largest financial inflows to developing countries.  The International Day of Family Remittances (IDFR) , is aimed at recognizing the significant financial contribution migrant workers make to the wellbeing of their families back home and to the sustainable development of their countries of origin.  The IDFR was unanimously proclaimed by all 176 member states of The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAAD's) Governing Council at its 38th session in February 2015, and adopted by the UN General Assembly in June 2018 (draft A/72/L.56 ). LASPOTECH appoints new Chairman, Deputy for Admission Committee

The management of the Lagos State Polytechnic has announced the appointment of Dr. Michael Adeniyi, a Principal Lecturer in the School of Pure and Applied Science as the new Admission Committee Chairman and Engr. Abdulakeem B.  Ogunbajo, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering was also appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the committee. According to information gathered from the Information and Public Relations Unit of the polytechnic, the rector Mr Samuel O. Sogunro congratulates the new appointees and wish them a successful tenure in office.

LASPOTECH Plans Upgrade To University Status, Sets Up A 16 Man Committee

The management of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu on Friday May 10 2018 at its 8th Congregation revealed plans to upgrade the Polytechnic to a University status when it annouced that it had constituted a 16 man committee to see through the process which is subject to the approval of the State Government. The rector of the institution, Mr Samuel Sogunro while presenting his report to the congregation on how well his administration has thrived, he said that the institution has come of age and made giant strides over the years hence deserves an upgrade in status. Sogunro announced the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr Olatunji Olateju as the Chairman of the committee and enjoined the staff to support the management to realise this mandate. He further encouraged the staff to upgrade and improve on their academic status in preparation for their rightful placement within the proposed university system. 

LASPOTECH dismisses 202 students over Cultism, Exam Malpractices

-Amosu Jeremiah The management of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, led by the rector, Mr Samuel Sogunro, on Wednesday, 10th of May 2018 at the 8th Congregation held at the 700 Seater Auditorium, Ikorodu campus of the institution has announced the dismissal of  the total number of 183 Students for cultism and 19 others for examination malpractice since the inception of his administration over two years ago. The rector while giving a breakdown of how he has led the affairs of the Polytechnic since the commencement of his administration in june 2015, gave the breakdown in his report that 116 National Diploma Students has been dissmised for cultism and 67 Higher National Diploma has also been dismissed for their involvement in cult realated issues. According to Mr. Sogunro " in the last three years, 183 numbers of students has been dismissed on cult related activities, the present administration has zero tolerance for cultism." OUR STAND It so disturbing each time to see the LASPOTECH union Government, on social media platforms serving as topic for discussion and usually not for positive reasons. This is as a result of the persistent and seemingly unending internal crises that has continued to rock the Union. It seems for each step taken forward, three are taken backwards and this has prevented them from achieving the goals for which it was established and has turned it into a laughing stock among its peers and the general public. There’s never been a time in the recent dispensation of the Lagos State Polytechnic Student Union Government (LASPOSUG) that the issue of suspending and denial of suspension of its top officials is more pronounced than it is now. The Lagos state Polytechnic, the bedrock of excellence after years of establishment has finally gotten her Press club registered under the school. It is no doubt a great achievement for the institution whose impact in Mass communication is known far and wide. The LASPOTECH Press club is a subsidiary of The Mass communication department but opened to all department in the school for membership. According to the pioneering president, Ayoola Olaitan, he made it known that the idea behind the creation of the press club is to ensure a maximum reportage of the community, be the platform the community looks up to for information and relay the  students' cries perfectly. He further described the birth as a great achievement for the institution and the department as a whole coupled with the fact that there has never been an active press club in the school ever since its establishment.
