The rector of the institution, Mr Samuel Sogunro while presenting his report to the congregation on how well his administration has thrived, he said that the institution has come of age and made giant strides over the years hence deserves an upgrade in status.
Sogunro announced the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr Olatunji Olateju as the Chairman of the committee and enjoined the staff to support the management to realise this mandate. He further encouraged the staff to upgrade and improve on their academic status in preparation for their rightful placement within the proposed university system.

“This idea of upgrading is subject to the approval of the state government, but I know we have the required infrastructure, facilities and manpower to run as a university. The idea will go through several processes, and that is why there is need to sensitise our various stakeholders, particularly the staff, as no one would be displaced of their duties, ” he explained.

According to him, transmuting the Polytechnic to a University is part of the focus of the 11th Governing Council of the institution.
“We intend to make ours different from the conventional university to attract more enrolment. That is why we will not jettison our National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND). We will run the programmes along with the degree programme once we get approval, ” he said.
The Rector said that  the vision is to make the institution the first ever Polytechnic-University in the country. He also emphasized the need to think of ways to generate enough fund internally, so that the government will see every need to approve the proposal for a status upgrade.
Sogunro  hailed the state government for its continuous support towards infrastructure development in the Polytechnic and improved staff welfare. He said that the Special Adviser to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode on Education, Mr Obafela Bank-Olemoh, had informed the institution of the government’s approval of funds for the production and deployment of drones made by LASPOTECH.  According to him, the drones will provide aerial surveillance in the state.
