 By Habeeb Ibrahim

Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) management met with 100 and 200 level class governors, and departmental presidents on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, to address concerns and provide guidance on key issues. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Biodun Denloye, and Dean, Student's Affairs, Dr. Aderogba Ademola, led the meeting.

The management focused on academic performance, urging students to prioritize their studies and attend classes regularly. They also emphasized the importance of adhering to the dress code and warned against engaging in protests, citing potential damages and loss of lives.

Prior to the meeting, the management had assured students and staff of adequate security measures to ensure their safety and protection of property during the planned nationwide protest scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 1, 2024. According to a special bulletin issued by the Office of the Registrar, Mr. David Ogungbe, the university management is aware of the planned protest and has taken necessary steps to ensure that normal academic activities continue uninterrupted.

"While the right of every Nigerian to a peaceful protest is recognized, staff and students are to note specifically that in consideration of the safety of their members, the Labour and Students Union bodies have all issued statements individually to disassociate themselves from the planned protest, while noting that it could be hijacked by miscreants," the statement read.

The management urged students to remain on campus and focus on their academic activities to avoid exposure to potential danger during the protest. Students undertaking lectures at the Surulere Campus have been directed to attend classes at the Ikorodu Campus on Thursday, August 1, 2024, with further information on subsequent days to be communicated later.

"We assure staff and students that adequate security arrangements are being put in place for the safety of lives and property on all campuses of the university," the statement added.
