Lagos State University of Science and Technology’s (LASUSTECH) students have breached the directive  issued by the school management as the Students Union Government declared the suspension of social activities lifted.

As contained in a broadcast message circulated yesterday and signed by the SUG President, Balogun Aderemi, and Public Relations Officer, Adesina Wonuola, all suspended social activities, on account of the new Vice Chancellor’s arrival, are to resume with immediate effect.

“This is to inform the entire students with regards to the Students’ Union Officers meeting earlier today Wednesday 12th, October 2022 with the Governing council at the Academic board room. We announce to you that all students activities that has been placed on hold can now commence with immediate effect.

“Rest assured the Students’ Union 21/22 academic session relentlessly will continue to stand as the voice of the students, come what may! Furthermore, the FYB and SUG week will be announced before the end of this week as we’re still in talks with the management regarding the academic calendar” The statement read.

Prior to the declaration, the school management, had in a memo issued from the Directorate of Students Affairs to all Students Union and Associations Executives, called for the indefinite suspension of all social activities on campus, stressing that the decision was made in order to critically analyze the security situation on campus and forestall the breakdown of law and order.

The directive, which was made in anticipation for the arrival of the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, entailed that the likes of SUG week and election, FYB week, and other scheduled students associations’ programme were to be halted till further notice.

This, however, did not augur well as  large number of students led by the Students Representative Council’s Speaker, Rt. Hon. Asekun Elijah, surrounded the school’s Board Room in an attempt to see the Rector following his arrival.

While the students were not allowed to see the Rector, the Speaker gave a 48-hours ultimatum for the Rector to address the aggrieved students.

However, the National Association of Ogun State Students (LASUSTECH Chapter) celebrated their association’s day at the School of Engineering Lecture theatre amid the suspension directive.

The event which was slated to hold at the School of Agriculture 500-Seater auditorium saw a change of venue over controversies surrounding the directive.
