NAPES Dean Cup: Agric Engineering Cruise Past Chemical Engineering in Tournament's Opener (See Pictures Below)

National Association of Polytechnic Engineering Students' (NAPES) Dean Cup started on a brighter note for Agric Engineering Department as their cruised past Chemical Engineering with a comfortable 3-1 victory at the opening match today.

The men in green wasted no time to settle in as Ameh Joseph capitalized on a sloppy clearance from the opponent’s goalkeeper to give Agric Engineering the lead few minutes into the game.

In the struggle to get themselves on track, Chemical Engineering gifted their rival a Freekick opportunity as their opponent’s player was brought down few distance away from their goal mouth.

Agric Engineering doubled their lead following a neat conversion of the free-kick by Animashaun Yusuf who lobbed the ball past Chemical Engineering’s goal keeper.

Chemical Engineering, however, pulled one back before the blow of half-time whistle.

The men in blue had taken advantage of Agric Engineering who were one man down following a rough tackle which left one of their players on the sideline receiving treatment.

Few seconds into the second-half, Agric Engineering sprung into attack, finding the back of the net again to increase their tally.

The goal was, however, disallowed with an unclear reason.

This did not stop Agric Engineering’s attacking threat as they kept slicing through Chemical Engineering’s defence.

Their dominant display paid off towards the end of the match as Agbalaya met a through pass from his teammate, putting him in a one-on-one situation against Chemical Engineering’s goalkeeper.

The striker forced the ball past the keeper to seal the 3-1 victory for the men in green.

Expressing his delight over the victory, Agric Engineering’s captain, Ogunremi Oluwatosin, lauded his team’s performance, stressing that the team is confident of topping the league.

“I really enjoyed the game. The reason why we conceded a goal was that we were short of one player. But I gave glory to God, we eventually won.

“This is a league so I’m looking forward to see my team at the top of the table. We are not just saying it, we are actually working towards it.” He said.

Meanwhile, effort to reach Chemical Engineering team proved abortive as they left the pitch immediately after the match.

In the second match of the tournament, Computer Engineering secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Civil Engineering.

A lone goal from Mubin was enough to secure Computer Engineering all three points.
