Lagos State University of Science and Technology’s Students Representative Council has suspended eleven honorable members representing the School of Engineering over alleged non-payment of the Council’s due.

In a sitting headed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Asekun Elijah, the Council had questioned the eligibility of the 18 honorables representing the School of Engineering, calling for the presentation of the payment receipt issued to the Honorables in the house.

With only eight out of the accused honorables present at the sitting, the Council  collected the payment receipts of the available honorables which was tendered to the house by the spokesperson of the accused honorables, Hon. Giwa Ajibola Daniel.

Following the submission of the payment receipts, the house went for lengthy break as SRC principal officers confirm the  presented receipts.

Several minutes after, the sitting resumed with the Clerk of the house, Hon. Odugwua, presenting the outcome of the verification.

According to the Clerk, seven out of the eight receipts presented to the house were valid while one was invalid.

Before making his pronouncement, the speaker pointed out that less than 50 students from school of Engineering paid for SUG due, while also emphasizing that only seven out of the 18 honorable members representing the faculty were recognized.

“As regards the School of Engineering as a faculty, they don’t have up to fifty students who pay the Students Union Government due. The hardest thing to do is when you are making judgement. I hereby suspend the eleven honorables without receipts from School of Engineering in this house.” The speaker said.

Reacting to the speaker’s pronouncement, the spokesperson for School of Engineering, Hon. Giwa Daniel, vowed to present the payment receipt of the suspended honorables at the next sitting.

While charging the Students Representative Council to impeach him if he failed to present the payment receipt of the suspended honorables, he, however, called for an apology letter from the Students Representative Council to the School of Engineering if, eventually, the payment receipts of the eleven honorables are confirmed to be valid.
