SUJC Symposium: Student wins N20,000 for Knowing who discovered Penicillin

A year two student of Lagos State University of Science and Technology Seyitan Temitayo Ayangbola, has won a cash price of N20,000 for knowing who discovered an anti-biotic drug, penicillin, during the Students Union Judiciary Council’s annual symposium on Wednesday.

Following a trivia questions session thrown to the students by the Presidential Candidate of Accord Party and the event’s Special Guest of Honor, Dr. Christopher Imumolem, Seyitan, a student from the School of Technology, walked up the podium at the mention of who invented penicillin? His reference to Scottish Physician, Sir Alexander Fleming, earned him the whooping cash price.

Speaking after the event, Seyitan, who also bagged the third position at the inter-school debate session, expressed his excitement over the win.

“Of course I was happy and I’m looking forward to doing more.” He said.

When asked how he got to know who invented Penicillin, the Science Laboratory Technology student revealed that he was once a Basic Science teacher before gaining admission into the institution.

“I was privileged to be a Basic Science teacher in a school before I gained admission. The question is one of those things I gave my students to recite.” He added.

On how he intend to spend the money, Seyitan revealed that he will use the money to settle his school fees.

“I’m a person sponsored only by my Mum. So the money will actually relieve me of my school fees.” He added.

Meanwhile, the symposium which took place at the 500 hundred seaters auditorium was organized by the Students Union Judiciary Council and hosted by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Adeniyi Emmanuel.

Notable dignitaries present at the event were former Head of Service, Lagos State, Prince Ogunlewe, NEM Insurance Plc. Mrs. Bolanle Baruwa, Film Maker and Movie Director, Sola Kosoko, Director of Students Affairs, Tpl. Oladayo Ibrahim, and Presidential Candidate if Accord Party, Dr. Christopher Imumolem.

LASUSTECH Announces February 13, 2027, for Maiden Convocation

The announcement was made by the Director of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. Ademola Aderogba, during the first engagement meeting of the 2025/2026 academic session. The meeting featured the introduction of Heads of Class (HOCs) and representatives from various departments.
