Nigeria’s youngest gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Dotun Ojon, has emphasized on the need for self-discipline while speaking at the leadership summit organized by the School of Environmental Studies Students Association (SESSA) at the 500 seaters auditorium of LASUSTECH on Wednesday.
The 2020 Ondo State gubernatorial candidate was the key guest speaker at the summit themed “The Big Issue: Transformation in unsettled times through youths involvement”.
While speaking at the summit, Dotun Ojon, who contested for the 2020 Ondo State gubernatorial election under Young Progressive Party (YPP), emphasized on youth involvement in leadership and politics identifying accountability, boldness, consistency, and discipline as the criteria for becoming a successful leader.
“If you do not discipline yourself, people will use you. If they know they can use you, everybody will want to have a taste of you, ” he said.
The event had in attendance other guest speakers which include relationship expert, Mrs. Adebola Macprince, and an economist, Miss. Elizabeth Sunday who rendered speeches on relationship development and career building respectively.
Convened by SESSA’s Faculty President, Comrade Abdulsalam Abdulrahman, the summit is the first of such to be held by the faculty. It was co-hosted by the Director of Students' Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Oladayo, Dean of School of Environmental Studies, Esv. Ogungbemi Olayinka, and the Staff Adviser of the Faculty, Mr. Kareem Arigbabu.
Meanwhile, the School Officer of the Faculty, Mrs. Janet Obakpolor, who was represented by Mr. Nelson Samuel Oluwarounfola, advised the students to avoid negativity, dogmatism, and stagnancy in the course of their career. She urged the students to spread the tentacles of their knowledge and avoid perceiving their career path as a mistake.
“It is not a mistake that you are on this career path. There are good people that have passed through Arts and Industrial Design like Adekunle Gold as well as other departments in the Faculty.”
“Many people are doing the same program you are doing. But it is not everybody that will be successful at the same thing. That is not a curse. It depends on positioning yourself.”
“Do not be negative. There is nothing you do once you are positive about it, then you will see that the sky is even your starting point not your limit” the School Officer said.
