The Students Representative Council has  commenced visitation to faculties and departments in what was tagged “Constituency visit” across Lagos State University of Science and Technology yesterday.

Led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Asekun Elijah, the Council visited the Schools of Technology and Applied Science, Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Communication and Liberal Studies, among others in an effort to sensitize the students on safety and security measures on and off the campus, particularly on cultist-related activities.

While addressing the students, the Speaker decried the infiltration of cult members into the campus and also off-campus where the students reside. He urged the students to be security conscious and raise alarm when they observe strange movement around them.

“On security and safety, we found out that some issues have been happening on and off campus. Some sort of people have been going here and there to lure students into cultism which is against our rules and even against the aims and objectives of the Student Union Government. Please if you are seeing any strange movement on campus, you can call on us or beckon on any security personnel. Be very careful of your movement at night. These guys are everywhere, trying to recruit members.” He said.

It can be recalled that earlier this month, two fresh undergraduates from the institution were reportedly initiated into a cult group with force, leading to the withdrawal of the students from the campus by their parents.

According to the Punch Metro, the undergraduates who lived together in an off-campus hostel at Oremeji street, First Gate community, were lured into the hands of cult gangs by their Caretaker. The students were allegedly beaten and forcefully initiated by the gang.

In his address, Rt. Hon. Asekun Elijah admitted the need for students to socialize. He, however, warned them to be wary of attending night events.

“It is good to socialize, but be very careful of the event you attend at night. If there is anybody that is lurking you into what you did not expect, please let us know.” He added.

Notable among the SRC members who accompanied the Speaker on his Constituency visit include, Majority Leader, Hon. Sodiq , Publication Chairman,  Hon. Adekunle Ibrahim, Chief Whip 2, Hon. Makanjuola Mojeed, Hon. Ojede Moses, and Special Service 2, Hon. Adeniyi Khadijat.
