LASUSTECH, MAN Partner to Boost Industry-Driven Research

Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) have partnered to promote practical research, innovation and technological development that respond to the needs of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.

The partnership was made formal through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Friday, September 11, 2026, at MAN House, Ikeja, Lagos.

The agreement provides a framework for both institutions to pursue strategic initiatives under the Triple Helix model of innovation, which encourages collaboration among academia, industry and government in addressing real-world challenges.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director-General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Mr Segun Ajayi-Kadiri, described the partnership as an important step towards closing the trust and collaboration gap between industry and academia.

Ajayi-Kadiri said the initiative would move engagements between both sectors beyond theoretical discussions to practical research, product development and industry-focused solutions.

He added that the collaboration would create opportunities for the commercialisation of locally developed engineering prototypes, innovations and fabrications, enhancing their adoption in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and strengthening local technological capacity.

The Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, described the partnership as a bridge between the “gown and town.”

Odusanya said the agreement would enable both institutions to combine specialised research capabilities, academic expertise and industrial experience to address immediate challenges across specific sectors.

He added that the partnership would also support the development of industry-aligned curricula and create a more structured talent pipeline for students seeking Industrial Training (IT) placements and practical industry exposure.

However, the partnership is expected to strengthen the connection between academic research and industrial practice by transforming locally developed ideas and innovations into practical solutions, while equipping students with the skills and experience needed to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s manufacturing and technological development.
