 LASUSTECH matriculates over 2000 pioneer students

Lagos State University of Science and Technology matriculated its pioneer students on Wednesday.

The matriculation ceremony was held at the school’s 500-seater auditorium.

Recall that the institution was transmuted from a polytechnic to a university on February 8, 2022, by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and out of 16000 applicants only 3000 students were given admission.

The University is comprised of five colleagues, which include the faculty of Engineering, the College of Agriculture, the College of Basic Sciences, the College of Environmental Designs and Technology, and the College of Applied Social Sciences.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya appreciated the efforts of the state government towards ensuring the increase in the number of students admitted to the institution.

“The focus of the admission process is to admit 200 students as pioneer students. We appreciate the effort of the governor, special adviser on education Mr. Tokunbo wahab, and other members of the council, the transformation committee led by professor emeritus Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, National University Commission NUC for increasing a quarter from 1850 to 3000 and Joint Admission Matriculation Board, JAMB for making the admission possible.” Professor Olumuyiwa said.

In addition, he reminded the students what is expected of them and not to forget “Mind the business theme”.

“I have carefully selected the theme of my commencement speech titled "A bright future is ahead", may I remind you of the theme of my address at the orientation programme which was "mind your business". I copied the other location that your primary business at the university was to Excel, to secure the future ahead of you.” He said.

Also the Directorate of student affairs Dr. Adedamola Aderogba expressed his satisfaction with the matriculation and explained he has high expectations from the maiden student.

“The event is a memorable one for every staff of the institution and students are happy to make history as the first set of matriculated students”.

He went further by saying “I have high expectations, being a new university, there are standard curriculums, the caliber of lecturers are well prepared, we want to make a  mark and not just graduate student within a short period.

“The school has its vision and mission, after being qualified and academics, we will produce and graduate students who will stand out in the industry.”He said.

Dr. Kolawole  Gbemavo Godonu the acting deputy vice-chancellor admin also expressed his gratitude to the Governor for the transmutation of the institution from polytechnic to university.

“This is the university’s first matriculation, we have transmuted from polytechnic to university, and the Governor has made effort to make our students to be empowered. Our students will find a place in robotic engineering, entrepreneurship, and great exploitation and their names will be heard.”

The school public relations officer Dr kuye also congratulated the students and wish them well

“As a former polytechnic that transmuted into a university, the polytechnic remains a legacy institution that serves as a foundation of the university of science and technology. I want to congratulate the student that got admitted as the maiden student of the university.” He said.

Dr, Isaac Oluwaseun Adekoya, Deputy Registrar of student affairs, expressed his satisfaction with the matriculation and advice for the student.

“I feel so elated to be part of the matriculation ceremony for the pioneer student of Lasustech and my advice for them is to start the journey properly, they should do assignments and tests, work very hard, and be careful of the group they keep”.

“They will not be job seekers, they will be employees, they will be trained to be self-reliant and those interested in Academics, they should be able to contribute to human race, teaching is a calling, those interested shouldn’t hesitate to come”  Dr. Isaac.

Speaking with our reporters, Favour Agbowarin from Mass Communication Department said he feels happy and privileged to be among the student doing matriculation.

Akileye Femi from computer engineering also said: “I am happy for matriculating today, it is a new phase of another journey and  I pray to see it through, The vice chancellor's advice to the student was to mind their business, to focus on the main objective why they are here and not to join any secret association”.

Wapa Accuna from the accounting department said she is happy and sure her daddy is proud of her cause this is what they have been hoping for since secondary school.

Okilade Matthew from the computer science department said he is grateful to God that he is here today.

Oladipupo Joy from the department of agriculture said she felt so good, delighted, and happy. She said the vice chancellor advise the student to mind their business and wish them success in their academics.

Ibrahim Basit from industrial chemistry said he was excited about the matriculation and the matriculation was an avenue for him to meet students from different departments.

Anani ola from the department of agriculture said: “ I am happy about today's matriculation but the school should have at least used a bigger hall that can contain the whole of the students matriculating.”

Mr. Kayode oje a parent said “it is a thing of joy for his son to be admitted into the university, personally he is very happy about it and he feels every parent will be happy if their child is admitted into the university. He said his advice to his son is that he is towing another part of life so he should focus on his academics".

Olagunju Balqees, from the department of Mass Communication, also said “ I am  excited, even though I wasn’t able to enter into the hall, and after matriculation, I will convocate and make my mum proud and get a good job.” 

Mrs. Balogun( Balqees’s mum ), I pray for her success, I pray she is successful, and the school is okay and good.

Temitope oluwabunmi, I feel so excited, it is my first time in the school and I am planning to achieve good things and come out with flying colours.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns

LASUSTECH Announces February 13, 2027, for Maiden Convocation

The announcement was made by the Director of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. Ademola Aderogba, during the first engagement meeting of the 2025/2026 academic session. The meeting featured the introduction of Heads of Class (HOCs) and representatives from various departments. Dr. Aderogba addressed issues relating to the academic session and outlined expectations for students.
