LASUSTECH Vice Chancellor Encourages New Students at Matriculation Ceremony

By Nurudeen Adebayo and Ibrahim Habeeb

In a recent matriculation ceremony at Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, delivered a motivating address to the newly admitted students.

He emphasized the significance of hard work and dedication, reminding them that "many write JAMB, but only a few are offered admission."

The ceremony, held at the College of Agriculture's 500-seater auditorium on the Ikorodu campus, witnessed the Vice Chancellor expressing joy and enthusiasm as he welcomed the students to the "University of Excellence."

He acknowledged the support of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the University's visitor, for their commitment to education and dynamic leadership.

"The students should be expecting better service, responsive management responding to the need and complain of students, doing everything possible to make learning and living conducive for students," said Dr. Adedamola Aderogba, the Dean of Students Affairs.

"My advice will not differ from that of the Vice Chancellor that they should mind their business, the opportunity given them, we have about 15,000 students who apply for the admission and only a few of them were admitted, they should optimize the opportunity and make the best of it because it is just a start in their career," he concluded.

"I am very happy and delighted because this is the second matriculation ceremony of Lagos State University of Science and Technology.

Present at the event was Dr.Abiola Lawal an associate professor in the university , he said “The only thing that we expect from students is to be very serious, attend to their academic activities, be in the class, do the assignments, do more research so that they can prove that they are excellent students, not to join cultism or any organization that is not registered in the school”.

In an interview with a newly admitted Mass Communication student, Shakiru Oluwagbafunmi said, "I feel so happy because ever since 2019, I have been seeking for admission, and I was among those that were admitted to the great institution 2023/2024 set. My advice to my colleagues that are still seeking admission is that they should keep in toiling till they hit the paper and never give up."

However, amidst the positive atmosphere, a parent lamented the inability to watch the event, criticizing the malfunctioning projectors both inside and outside the 500-seater hall.

"Today my two children are matriculating, it's the same thing as last year's, I am not pleased at all, I couldn't view the matriculation ceremony, the projectors in and outside the 500-seater hall were not working, and you called the school a university of science and technology. Where's the technology?" she asked and concluded.
