Governor Sanwo-Olu Pledges To Increase Bursary And Scholarship For Indigene Students

The Governor of Lagos State,  Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged to increase bursaries, scholarships, and scholarships for physically challenged and less privileged indigenes and non-indigenes of Lagos State.

He said this at a one-day interactive session  with student union leaders and stakeholders in the education sector at  the   Lagos State Secrteriat, Alausa, Ikeja.

The  Governor,  promised to increase bursaries from ₦50,000 to ₦60,000 and scholarship from ₦200,000 to ₦225,000.

While the governor acknowledged the challenges facing the country, he emphasized the need for responsible behaviour. 

He also highlighted ongoing entrepreneurship initiatives and expressed satisfaction with the transformation of new universities in Lagos. 

Lukman Amolegbe, former Lagos State University (LASU) Student Union President, appreciated the government's efforts, highlighting the positive changes since his tenure as the governor of the state.

The Chairman, National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Olalekan Alimi presented an agenda called Beyond School Certificate (BSC), Inter-Campus Debate, and Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE), addressing broader educational concerns.

All of these proposed programs have been graciously accepted by the Governor, reflecting his support for our efforts to empower students across Lagos.

The National President, National Union of Lagos State Students (NULASS) appealed for increased bursaries and scholarships for Lagos State indigenes.

The event, was attended by various dignitaries including,  Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr Tolani Sule Akibu, Head of Service, Mr Agoro Olabode Shuaheeb, Vice-Chancellor of LASU (represented by the Deputy V.C), Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, LASUSTECH Dean, Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. Adedamola Aderogba, Acting Provost, Acting Provost, Lagos State College YABA and others.

This interactive session marks a proactive approach by Governor Sanwo-Olu to address student concerns and strengthen the relationship between the government and the academic community.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns

The restriction led to confusion among students, who were subsequently directed by security personnel to use the Second Gate for entry into the campus. Speaking on the development, security officials disclosed that the action followed an incident that occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, when a tension wire was reportedly cut from a pole and fell directly at the entrance of First Gate. LASUSTECH Announces February 13, 2027, for Maiden Convocation

By Adetoyinbo Berachah The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has announced February 13, 2027, as the date for its maiden convocation. The announcement was made by the Director of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. Ademola Aderogba, during the first engagement meeting of the 2025/2026 academic session. The meeting featured the introduction of Heads of Class (HOCs) and representatives from various departments. Dr. Aderogba addressed issues relating to the academic session and outlined expectations for students. He presented an overview of academic results across colleges and departments, noting variations in performance. Students were advised to ensure lecturers are invited for scheduled lectures.
