Students of the Department of Mass Communication, Lagos State Polythecnic have attended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lagos State Council Press Week public lecture. where experts emphasized on peace agenda in Nigeria. 


The event, held at Combo Hall, LTV compound Alausa, Lagos, addressed the theme "Post Election Nigeria: Paths to National Restoration & Peace." the event highlighted the role of media in fostering hope, responsible journalism, and peace in Nigeria.


Distinguished figures from the media landscape converged at the event to educate the attendees about paths to restore National peace in Nigeria. 


Martins Oloja, Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian and chairman of the event, stressed the significance of celebrating media's heroes of democracy and focusing on a narrative of hope. He urged a shift from the prevalent negative portrayal of the country, emphasizing the need for national orientation and self-belief.


Highlighting the evolving nature of the industry, Oloja emphasized that journalism has transformed into a business, and the economic model supporting it requires scrutiny. "Newsprint is not manufactured in Nigeria," he noted, adding that costs have escalated due to importation from Sweden.


Prof. Sunday Alawode, the guest speaker and Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Lagos State University (LASU), underscored the importance of journalists' role in promoting peaceful elections. 


He advocated for Conflict Sensitive Journalism and urged reporters to continue conversations beyond election periods, viewing elections as a process rather than isolated events.


Maureen Chigbo, Publisher of Realnews and President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), called for refined language in reportage, stressing the need to amplify the voices of marginalized groups, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).


Adeleye Ajayi, Chairman of NUJ Lagos Council, highlighted the necessity of addressing lapses from the 2023 general elections. He emphasized the importance of justice for peace, urging the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for electoral violence.


The event witnessed the presence of notable personalities, including Tayo Akanle, General Manager of Traffic Radio, Peter Dada, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), and Sina Odunuga, Director of Public Affairs Office, Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.


The NUJ press week public lecture shed light on the media's responsibility in promoting peace, the evolving media landscape, and the significance of adopting refined language and responsible reporting practices. The call for continuing conversations beyond elections and addressing electoral violence resonated strongly throughout the event.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns

The restriction led to confusion among students, who were subsequently directed by security personnel to use the Second Gate for entry into the campus. Speaking on the development, security officials disclosed that the action followed an incident that occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, when a tension wire was reportedly cut from a pole and fell directly at the entrance of First Gate. LASUSTECH Announces February 13, 2027, for Maiden Convocation

The announcement was made by the Director of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. Ademola Aderogba, during the first engagement meeting of the 2025/2026 academic session. The meeting featured the introduction of Heads of Class (HOCs) and representatives from various departments. Dr. Aderogba addressed issues relating to the academic session and outlined expectations for students.
