Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineering (NIMECHE) has added to their tally of young Engineers following the swearing-in of new members at the School of Engineering lecture theatre yesterday.

In an attempt to promote the activities of the institute in Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), a couple of students were inducted into the institute at the event tagged “Challenges of mechanical engineer in 21 century”.

Following a welcome address by the President of, Giwa Ajibola Daniel, the Acting Dean, School of Engineering, Engr. Y.O Bankole, highlighted the importance of being a member of the institute while also encouraging the student to put more effort for there is many benefit the institute holds.

Delivering the keynote speech was the Students Advisor for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Engr. K.O Olaiya who revealed the challenges facing their profession as Engineers.

He emphasized on skills acquisition outside the classroom as a means of having an edge over others in the industry.

“The student must have a substance to offer to the society. Job opportunities is not easy to acquire which mean every student should develop themselves in every field of study, taking every opportunity. Knowledge is impacted in the classroom while skills acquire in the workshop.” He said

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the institute, Engr. Mrs. Oduwa Agboneni, gave a brief history of NIMECHE, which was established in 2002, while also stressing on the institute’s plan to bridge the industry and academic gap in other to make it easy for the student.

Also present at the induction ceremony are, Engr. Mrs Oduwa Agboneni, Engr. Olakunle Akin-Laguda, Engr. Olanipekun Kehinde, Engr. Bashir Mohammed, Engr. Oluwasegun Akadri, Engr. M. A. G. Muhammed, Engr. Ademola Onanuga, and APWEN Branch Chairman, Engr. Mrs Oyewole.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns

The restriction led to confusion among students, who were subsequently directed by security personnel to use the Second Gate for entry into the campus. Speaking on the development, security officials disclosed that the action followed an incident that occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, when a tension wire was reportedly cut from a pole and fell directly at the entrance of First Gate. According to the security personnel, the fallen wire posed a potential risk of injury, electric shock, or sparks to students and other individuals passing through the gate.
