Drama  as Students Clash over Endowment after Sanwo-Olu’s visit

The visitation of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH)  ended on a frenzy note yesterday as students clashed over the money gifted by the Governor after his departure.

Sanwo-Olu had, yesterday, paid the Institution a courtesy visit,  supervising the ongoing Senate/Admin building construction before addressing the group of students who, led by the Students Union Government’s President, Balogun Aderemi, came to honor the Governor’s presence.

As a form of gratitude to their gesture, the governor offered the SUG President a token of cash wrapped into brown envelopes.

Shortly after the governor’s exit, argument aroused among the students over the money.

It took the intervention of the school Public Relations Officer, Dr. Olanrewaju Kuye, to prevent the SUG President from being mobbed.

Following the dissolution of the members of staff who came to welcome the governor, the aggrieved students assembled at the PRO’s office to share the money.

According to an eye-witness, The National Union of Lagos State Students (NULASS) had requested for an envelope while the Students Union Government were to take the other envelope.

Another sect of students allegedly spearheaded by a student identified as Awoko called for their own share.

Following another minutes of heated argument, the PRO with the help of an unidentified member of the Governing Council resolved the issue by sharing the money across the seven schools in the Institution including NULASS who were given an independent share of the money.

Meanwhile, some of the students who came from Isolo Campus reportedly left the Ikorodu  campus around 7pm as they waited for their share of the money.

The eye-witness, however, claimed it was mere argument between the students over the sharing formula.
