Laspotech to Lagos State Polytechnic University: Hon. Agunbiade to Sponsor Bill

KUNLE ADELABU Efforts of the management of the Lagos State Polytechnic to change the status of the institution to a University has received the support of one of the most ranking lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. S.O. B. Agunbiade who is also the Majority Leader of the Assembly. The three-term lawmaker, representing the Ikorodu Constituency I,  gave his support to the move when he visited the institution as a guest of honour and guest speaker at the inauguration of the newly elected members of the Lagos State Polytechnic Students’ Union Government’s Students’ Representatives Council (LAPSOTECH SUG/SRC) which was held at the 700-Seater Auditorium at the Main Campus in Ikorodu on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. OPINION: ASUP Strike; A Recurring Necessity?

Damilare Banjoko While still battling with the strike embarked on by the Academic staff Union of Universities about a month ago now, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) on Wednesday December 12th, 2018 followed suit in an indefinite strike. These incessant strike actions in the Education sector has raised lots of concerns about the present administration’s efforts towards revamping quality education in Tertiary institutions. There is however no smoke without fire. So what led to the recent ASUP strike action? Some of the reasons the Union gave for embarking on the strike was non-implementation of the NEUDS Assessment report of 2014, non-payment of salaries in state-owned institutions, non-payment of allowances, victimization of the union members among others. This has raised issues about freedom of self-expression in different quarters and there has been mixed reactions trailing the announcement. No Insurance, No SUG League- DSA

Eke van Victor The Dean, Students’ affairs, Engineer Yakub Bankole has declared a no insurance, no outing policy for students of Lagos State Polytechnic. Speaking at a meeting with all Presidents of students’ associations and organizations on campus today, Engr. Bankole said that the policy is to ensure that risks and cases of accidents are properly managed in a manner that will alleviate unnecessary expenditure on the part of the School management. He added that students who are not insured will as well not be allowed to partake in the forthcoming SUG league, citing cases of injuries in the previous season of the league. “I will ensure that if you are not insured, then you cannot go for any outing. If your members are not insured, then I will not approve your outing. Anyone who is also not insured cannot take part in the SUG league.” He said.
