The Dean, Students’ affairs, Engineer Yakub Bankole has declared a no insurance, no outing policy for students of Lagos State Polytechnic.

Speaking at a meeting with all Presidents of students’ associations and organizations on campus today, Engr. Bankole said that the policy is to ensure that risks and cases of accidents are properly managed in a manner that will alleviate unnecessary expenditure on the part of the School management.

He added that students who are not insured will as well not be allowed to partake in the forthcoming SUG league, citing cases of injuries in the previous season of the league.

“I will ensure that if you are not insured, then you cannot go for any outing. If your members are not insured, then I will not approve your outing. Anyone who is also not insured cannot take part in the SUG league.” He said.

However, Engr Bankole made it known that the school is currently in partnership with African Alliance Insurance PLC; an Insurance firm which offers the students an Insurance coverage of a thousand-naira renewable every session.  It was disclosed that the firm offers insured students with freshly deceased parents the sum of about two-hundred-and-fifty thousand naira as benefits.

The DSA further said that he is not unaware of the challenges the students are presently facing in the institution and that he would do everything to see that he works hand in gloves with presidents of all associations and the Students’ Union Government to ensure that the welfare of the students is adequately catered for.

He also added that a loan scheme which would allow the students to borrow and payback without interests is still brewing and will be announced any time soon.
