LASUSTECH Mass Comm' Launches Subsidized Meal Program for Students

The Department of Mass Communication at Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has launched a subsidized meal initiative to support indigent students during the examination period.

The initiative officially began on Saturday, March 1, 2025, and is set to take full effect on Monday, March 3, 2025. The program is designed to provide financial relief to students facing economic hardship and ensure they have access to nutritious meals throughout the 10-day examination period.

Students who wish to benefit from the initiative must follow specific steps. First, they need to confirm their eligibility by meeting with their Level Adviser. After verification, they will receive a subsidized meal ticket from their Level Adviser. The next step is selecting a food vendor from the three accredited options on campus, which include Awusu Canteen (Shop F19), Mama T Cafeteria (Shop 16E), and TFT Food Canteen (Shop 18F). Once students have their tickets, they can present them at their chosen vendor to redeem a meal. The initiative aims to ensure that students can focus on their exams without the additional worry of food insecurity.

On the first day of the initiative, the Quality Control Team reported that students who redeemed their meal tickets conducted themselves in an orderly manner. However, the turnout was lower than expected. The team has reminded students that the initiative is open to all indigent students at all levels and will run for the full 10-day examination period. Students who have not yet collected their tickets are encouraged to visit their Level Adviser as soon as possible.

Students who have redeemed their tickets are also encouraged to share feedback about their experience directly with the Head of Department (HoD). Providing feedback is voluntary but will help improve the initiative.

Several student leaders are helping coordinate the program. Kayode Oluwabukola is the Head of Class for 300 Level, Tiamiyu Al-Amin is the Head of Class for 200 Level, and Odelusi Abraham is the Head of Class for 100 Level. These student leaders can be contacted for more information or assistance regarding the initiative.

The department welcomes support from students, lecturers, and alumni who wish to contribute to the initiative and help provide more subsidized meals. Those interested in supporting the program can reach out to their Head of Class or Level Adviser for details on how to contribute.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns
