The Federation of Epe Division Students Association (FEDSA) at Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) hosted a Ramadan lecture on Friday at the College of Engineering Theatre Hall, Ikorodu.

The event hosted by Rt. Hon. Edu Shaafi, Speaker of FEDSA LASUSTECH, and Comrade Obadina Habeeb, the association's President aimed to enlighten students on balancing faith and academics during the holy month of Ramadan.

Ustadh Edu Lukman, the guest lecturer, emphasized the importance of making Ramadan a period of spiritual growth beyond fasting. He encouraged students to engage in acts such as tahajjud (night prayers), Quranic recitation and memorization, and charitable deeds.

"You shouldn't only fast during this month of Ramadan; make use of it positively," Ustadh Edu Lukman stated.

At the conclusion of the lecture, students received palliatives to support them during Ramadan. Speaking on the gesture, FEDSA LASUSTECH President, Comrade Obadina Habeeb, noted that the initiative was driven by the administration’s commitment to student welfare.

"As we all know, this administration is dedicated to the welfare of our students. This initiative is aimed at relieving their burden by providing support, so they can focus on academic excellence rather than worrying about feeding," he said.

He further noted that the distribution was not limited to Muslim students alone but extended to all attendees, regardless of religious background.

Former LASPOTECH President, Comrade Surakat Muftaudeen, described the event as a significant step in promoting student welfare.

"This Ramadan lecture and palliative distribution elevate students’ spirits during exams and encourage them to perform better academically. It also fosters a sense of unity within the association and the institution at large," he said.

Aliyah Abdulrasheed, a student from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, also praised the program.

"It was very enlightening, teaching us how to better manage our time, responsibilities, and priorities. The discussion on the importance of utilizing the middle of the night for prayers and studies was particularly impactful," she stated.

Speaking on the significance of Ramadan, Ustadh Edu Lukman highlighted its spiritual, social, and academic advantages.

"Ramadan helps us become spiritually upright, as even those who rarely pray become more dedicated. Socially, it fosters empathy and reminds us to help the less privileged. Academically, it trains students to wake up at night—a time proven to be best for studying—helping them prepare for exams while reducing distractions," he explained.

Mr. Adam Edu, another speaker, urged FEDSA leaders to continue organizing impactful programs.

"This is a commendable initiative. Leadership is about serving students’ interests, and bringing them together for academic and spiritual growth is a step in the right direction. I encourage them to keep it up," he said.

The event reaffirmed FEDSA LASUSTECH’s commitment to student welfare, providing both spiritual guidance and material support during the fasting period.
