Lagos State University of Science and Technology have revealed its proposed 33 take-off programmes ahead of the 2022/2023 Academic Session, as contained in The Nation newspaper publication yesterday.

Signed by the Special Adviser on Education to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the proposed take-off programs cut across five colleges. Unlike the old Polytechnic institution which had seven schools, the new University institution would see the conversion of the seven schools into five colleges.

As provided in the publication, the five colleges include the College of Engineering and Technology, College of Environmental Design and Technology, College of Basic Science, College of Applied Social Science, and College of Agriculture.

The 33 take-off programmes are slated for the 2022/2023 session with admission into the Institution ascertained to be open for all, irrespective of race, tribe, religion, sex, or political leanings.



However, 100-level candidates are to be strictly admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) coupled with the fulfilment of some criteria which include obtaining at least five (5) credit passes at Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or equivalent in relevant subjects including English language in not more than two sittings; scoring a minimum of points in UTME specified by the University to JAMB; and passing the Post-UTME organized by the University.

Meanwhile, Direct Entry programme is slated to commence from the 2023/2024 session. The implications of this is that the 2020/2021 National Diploma graduates will have to wait an extra year after their mandatory one year Industrial Training before they can enroll for Direct Entry into the University.

In the same development, the authorities of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) had, earlier yesterday, denounced the appointment of Dr. Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye as the Acting Vice Chancellor. According to a statement signed by the management of the institution, appointing principal officers are meant to follow due process and stipulated law.

“The attention of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) authorities has been drawn to the publications in the media, on the appointment of an Acting Vice Chancellor for the newly established University, credited to a source within the Institution.

“For avoidance of doubt, there are extant laws guiding such critical appointments. The law also identifies the authorities vested with the powers to appoint and announce such principal administrative and academic positions.” The statement read.

In reaction to this, the Special Adviser on Education to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Tokunbe Wahab disclosed that the state government will set up a transition committee to ensure smooth transition of the institution. He also assured the Institution’s staffs of being treated fairly regardless of the upgrade.
