Oro Festival: LASUSTECH to Close Campus on Tuesday, May 27 Over Safety Concerns

By Ademuyiwa Balikis and Habeeb Ibrahim

In anticipation of the upcoming Oro Festival scheduled to hold in Ikorodu and surrounding areas on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the management of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has announced that the university will close for physical activities on that day.

According to a statement signed by the university management, the closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff, especially females, during the cultural event which traditionally restricts the movement of women.

“All students of the University are advised to stay off campus and remain indoors on that day,” the statement reads.

The university further noted that female staff members who feel unsafe coming to work are permitted to work remotely from home.

While the physical campus will be shut, lectures for the day are to be held only virtually, without tests or Continuous Assessments (CAs), although assignments may be given.

Despite the closure for students and some staff, the university clarified that it will not shut down completely. Normal administrative duties and services will continue, carried out by staff not affected by the safety advisory.

Full academic and administrative activities will resume on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The management urged all members of the LASUSTECH community to take the information seriously and comply accordingly for their safety.
