The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (Lagos State Polytechnic Isolo Chapter) has, on Wednesday, inaugurated its new executive members ahead of the 2022/2023 academic session.

Held at the Mosque extension, the event started with an opening prayer rendered by Farouq Abdulsalam followed by Quran recitation.

While the outgoing Amir, Olasupo Adegbola, was unavailable to deliver his welcome address as scheduled, Abdul Hakeem Opadijo, the Imam of Masjidu Sunnah Ago-Okota, commenced with the lecture of the day in absence of the guest lecturer, Prof. Tajudeen Yusuf.

Speaking on the theme of the program, “The Leadership we desire: Exemplary of the Companion”, Opadijo emphasized on the essence of leadership, stressing that life is void of meaning without leadership.

“A life without leadership is meaningless, purposeless, and functionally useless. Allah that created man want us to be under the canopy of leader.

“Leadership is not trivia. It is one of our fundamentals in the religion of Islam. We should never toy with it.” He said.

Opadijo further highlighted different criteria to become exemplary leader which he said to include self-confidence, being a problem solver, integrity, active listening, accountability, innovation, passion, and vision.

On passion and vision, the educationist described the inter-relatedness of both qualities, stressing that the former is the most powerful in leadership.

“Your vision without passion will not assist your mission. Passion is the most powerful tool that pushes you without any encouragement.” He said.

However, Opadijo revealed that leaders tend to fail due to some reasons which include allowing caucus, favoritism, delaying information, misbehaviour, sin, ungratefulness, poor information management, lack of assertiveness, and poor upbringing of successor.

Following the lecture, the outgoing Ameer, Olasupo Adegbola, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to LASUSTECH Muslim community, his executive members and some notable individuals for their support all through his tenure.
