Maiyegun Olamide, LSTS Winner Secures Automatic Admission for His Eleven-Year Old Brother Into Lagos State Polytechnic

It was an evening of thrilling and energetic displays as Laspotech hosted the grand finale of the first edition of the Laspotech Students’ Talent Show in commemoration of the school’s fortieth anniversary.

The grand finale which was proudly sponsored by First City Monument Bank, Indomie Noodles and Malta Guinness was held yesterday at the School of Agriculture 500 seater auditorium and was full of suspense, intrigues and entertainment as the auditorium was filled twice beyond its capacity.


It turned out to be an explosive evening as the eleven contestants in dance, music and comedy categories selected at the preliminaries held last week Thursday battled for the star prize with their sonorous voices and incredible acts.

The Cartoon Boiz a group of two siblings Maiyegun Olamide Kukham and Timileyin Fakunle who eventually emerged winners of the contest left the judges and audience jaw-dropped with their amazing acrobatic display and won the heart of the Rector who subsequently awarded an automatic admission to the younger sibling of the main contestant, Timileyin Fakunle an eleven-year old JSS1 Student.


While the winners, Cartoon Boiz went away with the star prize of a hundred thousand naira with an additional fifty thousand naira from the school management and packs from the sponsors, the first runner-up, Olomola Olanrewaju went with the sum of fifty thousand naira and an additional thirty thousand from the school management as well as packs from the sponsors. And the second runner up, Olododo Felix went away with the sum of thirty thousand naira with an additional twenty thousand naira from the school management and packs from the sponsors too.


There were however guest performances by SOJ, I can’t Shout and the EED Basic Drama Class who performed an abridged version of the famous Yemoja stageplay.


The panel of judges was made up of 2018 AMVCA winner and an alumnus of the school, Tunji Afolayan; Comedian and also an alumnus Jimboi; Juju Maestro and an alumnus of the school, Empress Oluwaseun Aransiola; and Henrietta Enumah, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication.

Noteworthy in attendance were, Mr Oluyinka Sogunro, The Rector of the Polytechnic; Dr. Olatunji Olateju, Deputy Rector Admin; Mr Olumide Metilelu, Deputy Rector Academics; Mr Jerry Jinadu, the Polytechnic bursar and several other members of the management staff.


The talent show was one of the students’ activities lined up for the 10-day celebration of Laspotech’s fortieth anniversary which is billed to end this Thursday. The Rector however announced that it would become an annual show and will be an avenue to discover and nurture talents in the campus community.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns

The restriction led to confusion among students, who were subsequently directed by security personnel to use the Second Gate for entry into the campus. Speaking on the development, security officials disclosed that the action followed an incident that occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, when a tension wire was reportedly cut from a pole and fell directly at the entrance of First Gate. LASUSTECH Announces February 13, 2027, for Maiden Convocation

The announcement was made by the Director of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. Ademola Aderogba, during the first engagement meeting of the 2025/2026 academic session. The meeting featured the introduction of Heads of Class (HOCs) and representatives from various departments. Dr. Aderogba addressed issues relating to the academic session and outlined expectations for students. He presented an overview of academic results across colleges and departments, noting variations in performance. Students were advised to ensure lecturers are invited for scheduled lectures.
