LASUSTECH Shuts Down School Activities Due to NLC and TUC Nationwide Strike

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has suspended all academic activities and closed its facilities due to the ongoing nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

In a statement released by the LASUSTECH Student Consultative Assembly, Chairman/President Comr. David Gabriel informed students that "All classes and academic activities will be suspended until further notice. University facilities, including libraries and laboratories, will be closed. All student events and activities have been postponed."

Gabriel urged students to remain calm and safe during the strike, saying "We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary." He also appealed to the government and the NLC to resolve their differences quickly, stating "We call on the government and the NLC to resolve their differences quickly, so that we can return to our normal academic routines."

In a related development, Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Adedamola Aderogba, in a statement also urged students to remain at home or in their hostels, avoid roaming, and stay safe during the strike. 

"Remain at your respective homes or hostels and avoid roaming around or accompanying friends on visitations while the strike lasts. Stay safe," DSA.

The strike, which began on June 3, 2024, has affected universities across the country, with many shutting down academic activities to ensure the safety of students and staff. The NLC and TUC are demanding a new minimum wage and improved working conditions for workers.

LASUSTECH students have been advised to stay safe and stay informed, following official updates from the university and student union.

NELFUND: LASUSTECH Receives ₦112M, Contradicting Initial ₦7.8M for 82 Students

By Habeeb Ibrahim     The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has acknowledged the receipt of ₦112,057,000.00 (One Hundred and Twelve Million, Fifty-Seven Thousand Naira Only) from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).  The funds were allocated to 1,233 students under the NELFUND student loan program.
