Accreditation: LASUSTECH Prepares for NUC Approval of 25 Programmes

By Habeeb Ibrahim, Omodolapo Anifowose, Omotoyosi Okuneye

Not less than twenty-five (25) programmes will be accredited by Lagos State University of Science and Technology (Lasustech) come October 2024. The programmes include departments in the College of Applied and Social Sciences, College of Engineering, and College of Agriculture.

The Vice Chancellor of the school, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, disclosed this yesterday at the second congregation meeting of the school in Ikorodu, Lagos.

He said that preparations were in top gear to meet the requirements of the National University Commission (NUC), stressing that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that all the programmes were finally accredited.

In his remarks at the occasion, Professor Odusanya said, "The institution has started the construction of an 80-bed student hostel and a 1,500-seat auditorium at the Ikorodu campus of the school." He affirmed that the projects were facilitated by Tetfund, stressing that the school had not been able to access the fund for the past three years due to the activities of some staff.

According to him, "For three years, the polytechnic (Laspotech), now Lasustech, did not receive financial assistance from Tetfund because of some staff's attitude and failure to retire the funds they collected for training, conferences, and seminars."

He also advised staff to work together, stating that the accreditation exercise "is a must-pass exercise." He expressed dismay at the attitude of some members who impersonated their colleagues' staff identity numbers to vote for congregants in the election. According to him, "We leave those culprits to God for their crude attitude. We know them.

There is no perfect system; we must keep moving forward and thinking of the future of our work and the students while working together for a common purpose."
