 Tragedy Strikes LASUSTECH Isolo campus as fatal Accident Claims Two Students' Lives

A horrific accident unfolded at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) in Isolo when an unidentified truck collided with three victims along Isolo's main road. 

The victims included Akinola Mariam and Nwapa Akunna, both 100-level students of Accounting, and one Save Our Soul (SOS) security personnel.

According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred as a result of a truck driver's collision with a tanker truck, leading to a loss of control that tragically claimed the lives of the victims who were on their way to their hostel. 

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, arrived at the accident scene shortly after the incident and assured students that a thorough investigation would be conducted to identify the truck's owner.

Prof Olamade Olumuyiwa, the Dean of the College of Applied Social Sciences, expressed condolences to the parents of the deceased students on behalf of the university.

Dr. Olanrewaju Kamorudeen Kuye, the Public Relations and Information Officer for the institution, expressed deep sorrow over the accident. He mentioned that while the incident occurred outside the school, the Vice Chancellor promptly visited the site to console students. Kuye added that the university had contacted the parents of the victims.

He stated, "Our governing council had a meeting yesterday because of it, and we had to stop the meeting for some time. The students have taken the remaining vehicles into the school compound; those vehicles will not leave our campus if the parents are not compensated. We will get the driver of the vehicle, although the souls will not wake up, but it will not go in vain."

Musa Aliyah and Etimodan Victoria, who witnessed the incident, rushed back to the campus between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm after attending an economics lecture to inform their fellow students about the tragedy. 

Musa Aliyah, who alerted the students, suffered injuries to her legs and chest. She was hospitalized for three days before being discharged.

The victims, Mariam and Akunna, were laid to rest on October 6th and 7th, 2023, respectively, as the entire college community and parents mourned their untimely loss.

The tragic accident evoked profound sympathy among students of the Accounting department, the College of Applied Social Science (CASS), school management, and the parents of the deceased.

Davis Muhideen Adebayo, a 100-level Accounting student, shared his thoughts on the incident and described the sequence of events.

Raji Oluwanifemi Ifeoluwa, another 100-level Accounting student, recounted the moment they received the news and the surreal atmosphere that followed.

The Head Of Class (HOC) for the College of Applied Social Science (CASS) offered condolences to the bereaved families and expressed hope that such a tragedy would not recur.

Oyindamola, a 100-level Accounting student, shared her experience of narrowly avoiding the accident due to her phone being confiscated by a lecturer.
