The National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) organized their annual Ikorodu Division Legacy Summit with the theme "Ikorodu in a decade."
This historical summit was held at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), formerly known as LASPOTECH, in Ikorodu Campus.
The summit aimed to bring together leaders, thinkers, innovators, stakeholders, and students to promote excellence in the future development of Ikorodu. Its primary goal was to create a roadmap for the transformation of Ikorodu into a thriving hub of innovation, culture, and opportunity.
The event drew students from various schools in Lagos and beyond, all of whom were Ikorodu indigenes, including LASPOTECH, LASUSTECH, LASU, YABATECH, UNILAG, LASUED, among others.
Distinguished speakers at the summit shared valuable insights and advice. Mr. Mayodeen Sanwoola, Director-General of the icare Foundation, urged the students to seize opportunities as Ikorodu indigenes and represent their community positively.
He emphasized the importance of dispelling the misconception that Ikorodu is associated with thuggery.
Ms. Yemisi Enifeni, a finance professional, shared the secrets of success, including education, patience, mentorship, collaboration, adaptability, and making impacts. She encouraged students to adapt their efforts to their capabilities.
Mrs. Adedoyin Kukoyi, the host of GBAJUMO OSERE and the CEO of ETO ADEDOYIN, stressed the significance of embracing morals and culture, especially for Yoruba and Ikorodu indigenes.
Dr. Fatai Abatan, the acting Head of the Department of Political Science at Lagos State University (LASU), praised the program's initiative and advised students to be good ambassadors of Ikorodu, both academically and socially.
Comrade Abdulsalam Adebayo Tijani, Vice President 2 of NAIDS, highlighted the summit's purpose to assess Ikorodu's development over the past ten years and discuss its future trajectory.
Fawaz Omogbolahan, a student of LASU, underlined the summit's role in connecting Ikorodu students with their roots and fostering relationships among indigenes.
Comrade Hassan Ayomide, LASPOTECH NAIDS President, aimed to dispel negative stereotypes about Ikorodu indigenes and noted that the younger generation now values their home and history more.
Hakeem Ifeoluwa, the PRO for NULASS LASU Chapter, encouraged students to engage in politics to effect the change they desire.
Deborah from Lagos State University found the program impactful, educative, and interesting, citing the valuable leadership lessons learned.
