LASUSTECH Students Decry Power Outage at Lambo Lasunwon Community During Exams, Call for Disco's Intervention

Habeeb Ibrahim Students of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) residing off campus around First Gate, Lambo Lasunwon community, have voiced their frustrations over a prolonged power outage in their areas, which has severely impacted their ability to prepare for exams.  The outage, which has lasted over 30 hours, has led to significant challenges in maintaining a conducive environment for studying. In an interview with LASUSTECH Watch, Odeyemi Saidat Adeoba, a second-year student of Office and Information Management, described the extended outage as a major obstacle. “The situation is poor, and we have no alternative source of power, such as a generator, available to us,” she lamented. Saidat added that the lack of electricity had severely hindered her ability to focus on her studies and called on the management to engage with IKEDC and the electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to resolve the issue. LASUSTECH VC, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, Frowns at Prevalence of Sexual Harassment, Reiterates Zero Tolerance

Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, has expressed concern over the prevalence of sexual harassment within the university community.  Speaking at the monthly Executive Management Meeting with the University's Labour Union Executives on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Council Chamber, Ikorodu Campus, Prof. Odusanya presented a paper titled "Preventing Sexual Violence." "Various studies in Nigeria show that almost half of University students had experienced sexual violence. Sexual harassment is a scourge that must be eradicated from our campus. LASUSTECH has zero tolerance for sexual harassment in any form," Prof. Odusanya emphasized. "We will not condone any behavior that compromises the safety and well-being of our students and staff." NANS Lagos Hosts Inter-Campus Debate and Security Summit

LASUSTECH Students Consultative Assembly (LSCA) Successfully Hosts VC's Cup: A Celebration of Talent and Sportsmanship

Bisiriyu Hassan  The Lagos State University of Science and Technology Students Consultative Assembly (LSCA) recently concluded a highly successful VC's Cup, a multifaceted sporting event that brought together the university's brightest talents.  The competition featured football, chess, scrabble, and tennis, with students from various faculties vying for top honors. The football final, held on Thursday, was a nail-biting affair that saw the College of Engineering clinch victory against the College of Basic Science after a tense penalty shootout.  This thrilling match was a highlight of the event, showcasing the skills and determination of the student-athletes. Adesemoye Heads LASUSTECH's Department of Mass Communication

Dr. Adesemoye, a Senior Lecturer in the department, brings extensive experience in screen and culture, public relations, and narrative media production to his new role.  Previously, he served as the acting public relations officer and assistant dean for student affairs at the former Lagos State Polytechnic. "I am honoured to lead the Department of Mass Communication at LASUSTECH," said Dr. Adesemoye. "My vision is to position the department as a hub for innovation and excellence in media education, research, and industry collaboration." Mass Communication Department Wins Deans Cup --- Mathematics & Statistics Department also Defeats Computer Science to Win the College Dean's Cup

 By Habeeb Ibrahim The department of Mass Communication, Lagos State University of Science and Technology’s College of Applied Social Science concluded the 2023/2024 Dean's Cup football tournament with a victorious win, while the Mathematics and Statistics department triumphed over the Computer Science department to win the Dean's Cup of the College of Basic Science. The final match, held at the university’s sports complex, saw the Mass Communication team defeat the Accountancy department 3-1. The match, was graced by notable figures including Dr. Abiola Lawal, the Sports Director and Head of the Banking and Finance Department, and Dr. Zannu Prosper, Head of the Mass Communication Department. The Accountancy department struck first, scoring a goal in the first half, which intensified the pressure on the Mass Communication team and their supporters.
