LASUSTECH Mass Communication Students to Host “Beyond the Degree 2.0” on Media Entrepreneurship

The Department of Mass Communication, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, through the collaborative efforts of the Mass Communication Students Association (MACSA) and the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), is set to host the second edition of its career development programme, “Beyond the Degree 2.0,” aimed at preparing students for entrepreneurial opportunities in the evolving media landscape.

The event, scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., will hold at the 500-Seater Auditorium, LASUSTECH, Ikorodu Campus, with the theme: “Graduating into Entrepreneurship: The Future of Media Practitioners.”

According to the organisers, the programme seeks to equip students and aspiring media professionals with the entrepreneurial knowledge, practical skills, and strategic mindset needed to navigate the changing realities of the media industry.

With traditional employment opportunities becoming increasingly competitive, the event is expected to expose participants to emerging opportunities in media entrepreneurship, digital content creation, strategic communication, branding, and related sectors.

The Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, will serve as the Chief Host, while the Head of Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Zannu Prosper Nunayon, will host the event. Also expected at the programme is the Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Ademola Aderogba, who will attend as Co-Host.

Delivering the keynote address is renowned documentary photographer and author, Mr. Dayo Adedayo, whose expertise in media storytelling and entrepreneurship is expected to provide participants with practical insights into building successful careers beyond conventional employment pathways.

The programme will also feature notable industry professionals, including Mr. Ibrahim B. Fatoyinbo, a strategic communication expert; Mr. Biolatiri A. Victor, Chief Executive Officer of Adegraphics; and Mrs. Mariam O. Bello, Founder of Virtual Ms Mariam.

Participants are expected to benefit from keynote presentations, panel discussions, interactive question-and-answer sessions, networking opportunities, and award presentations aimed at inspiring students and preparing them for post-university realities.

Speaking ahead of the programme, the student leadership noted that Beyond the Degree 2.0 is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations while encouraging students to embrace entrepreneurship as a viable and rewarding career path in the media ecosystem.

The programme is being convened by the President of the Mass Communication Students Association (MACSA), Comrade Jenrade S. Ololade, alongside the President of the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), Journalist Ibrahim Habeeb Irewole.

Students, academics, media practitioners, entrepreneurs, and members of the public have been encouraged to attend the event and take advantage of the platform for learning, networking, and professional development.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns

The restriction led to confusion among students, who were subsequently directed by security personnel to use the Second Gate for entry into the campus. LASUSTECH Announces February 13, 2027, for Maiden Convocation

The announcement was made by the Director of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. Ademola Aderogba, during the first engagement meeting of the 2025/2026 academic session. The meeting featured the introduction of Heads of Class (HOCs) and representatives from various departments. Dr. Aderogba addressed issues relating to the academic session and outlined expectations for students.
