LASUSTECH Transforms into Construction Hub as VC Unveils Legacy Projects

Habeeb Ibrahim

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) is undergoing one of the most ambitious infrastructural overhauls in its history, with new academic and research facilities springing up across its Ikorodu campus.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 9, during the university’s Congregation, describing the campus as “a huge construction zone” that reflects LASUSTECH’s vision of becoming a world-class institution.

Among the projects underway are a professorial building, a central research laboratory, and multiple auditoria. The university also recently hosted the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) for the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Automotive Testing Centre, further cementing its growing reputation in technology and innovation.

“These are not just buildings; they are the foundation of the future LASUSTECH we are building — a university that competes with the best anywhere in the world,” Odusanya said.

The infrastructural push is complemented by investments in academic resources, including advanced laboratory equipment, new college buses, and the establishment of a zoological garden to support teaching and research.

Odusanya added that the developments are part of the institution’s strategic IMPACT agenda, which has been driving progress across six key pillars in the last three years.

But beyond the physical structures, the Vice-Chancellor called on staff and students to match the university’s growth with a culture shift that prioritises excellence, innovation, and discipline. “A university is more than buildings. It is the people who define its brand and reputation,” he said.

He stressed that LASUSTECH’s drive for global recognition could be undermined if the community engages in actions that project negative stories. “Who would want to partner with or support a university at war with itself?” he asked.

With three uninterrupted academic sessions, 22 fully accredited programmes, and 14 more lined up for October, Odusanya said LASUSTECH is on course to become a model of stability and excellence in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
