The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has achieved three consecutive academic sessions without major disruptions, a milestone the institution says underpins its growing reputation as a centre of excellence.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 9, during the university’s Congregation, where he outlined efforts to position LASUSTECH as a world-class brand.
“We have completed three academic sessions without major disruptions. Teaching has continued to improve, and the resources for teaching and learning are continuously being upgraded,” he said.
Backing the academic stability is the recent accreditation of 25 undergraduate programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), with 22 securing full accreditation and three earning interim status. The university is also preparing for the accreditation of 14 additional programmes in October.
Odusanya credited the feat to the collective commitment of staff and students, describing it as proof that LASUSTECH is on track to become “a highly competitive, globally acclaimed, world-class university.”
Beyond academics, the VC listed legacy projects reshaping the campus, including a new professorial building, central research laboratory, multiple auditoria, and the newly commissioned Automotive Testing Centre by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).
He also highlighted measures to boost staff welfare, such as payment of promotion arrears, harmonised salary scale, and renewed training sponsorships.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, warned against actions that could tarnish the university’s reputation. “Who would want to partner with or support a university at war with itself, with negative stories in the media?” he asked.
Odusanya urged the university community to embrace a collective culture of excellence, discipline, and innovation. “Working together, we can make LASUSTECH the best and most sought-after university in Nigeria in the near future. We cannot afford to fail.”
