The Senior Special Assistant on Social Development to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Biliamin Olalekan Oba, has encouraged students to seek mentorship from elders, teachers, and counselors, especially when dealing with academic or personal challenges.

He shared this message during the 38th Imota Ayayo Lecture Day, held at Sh-Sholaja Multipurpose Hall in Imota, Lagos, themed “The Struggle for Youth Participation in Politics and Community Development: Lessons from Nigeria’s Democratic Process.”

The event, attended by over 200 students, educators, community leaders, and dignitaries, including Oba Ajibade Agoro, the Ranodu of Imota, focused on the role of youth in creating an inclusive and progressive society.

Oba emphasized that national development hinges on investing in youth, referencing the National Youth Council’s motto, “Build the Youth; Build the Nation.” He applauded the organizers for encouraging youth involvement and stressed the importance of early community engagement, saying, “You can’t be a part of the future that you are not familiar with.”

Oba also called for increased youth participation in future editions of the event, particularly from Imota and its diaspora, to strengthen community bonds.

The event also showcased a cultural performance by the LASUSTECH Tourism and Hospitality Department’s troupe, adding a vibrant touch to the celebration. The troupe honored dignitaries and entertained guests, highlighting the cultural heritage and spirit of Imota.

Alhaji Amusa Olawale, the proprietor of HOMAT Group of Schools, urged attendees to prioritize community contributions over personal gain.

“As leaders of tomorrow, think about what you can give back to the community that nurtured you,” he said. “We appreciate your potential and urge you to strive for excellence. You are the hope for a better tomorrow.”
