Eko Club Int'l Awards N3M Scholarship to 30 LASUSTECH Students

Eko Club New York, a branch of Eko Club International, has awarded Three million naira (₦3 million) scholarships to 30 students of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) in a move to support indigene of the state.

The scholarship presentation ceremony, held at the 500-Seater Hall on LASUSTECH’s Ikorodu campus on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, saw each recipient awarded N100,000 to ease their educational expenses.

Speaking on behalf of the Club’s President, Hon. Chief Saheed Olusesi, Dr. Tayo Ogunyemi highlighted that the increase from previous years’ N50,000 per student to N100,000 reflects the Club's commitment to supporting indigent students. “We have raised the award for each of the 30 selected students this year and plan to expand to 50 beneficiaries next year,” Ogunyemi announced, urging other organizations and individuals to follow their example.

LASUSTECH’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, commended the Club’s dedication, describing it as a strong contribution to the university's goals and Lagos State Government’s mission to improve educational access. “This act of generosity is a powerful motivator for these students to excel in their studies,” Prof. Odusanya stated, encouraging Eko Club New York to continue this support.

The scholarship recipients from LASUSTECH, studying in fields ranging from engineering to food science and technology, shared their gratitude for the support and described the scholarship as a lifeline easing their financial burden. For many, the scholarship represents a step toward achieving educational and career aspirations despite economic challenges.

Among the recipients, Avoseh Emmanuel, a 300-level student of Mechatronics Engineering, described the opportunity as a “privilege and blessing.” Emmanuel discovered the scholarship through his department’s social group and verified the organization’s credibility before applying. “I needed this scholarship to support my parents and siblings,” he explained, noting that he hopes to inform more students about the initiative. Emmanuel expressed heartfelt thanks to Eko Club New York, hoping it will reach more students in need.

Lukman Odunmusun, a 300-level Civil and Construction Engineering student, learned about the scholarship from Dr. Animashaun, Head of the Mechatronics Department. Odunmusun shared that the financial support would help cover some of his bills and provide financial stability. “This scholarship isn’t just about funding; it’s about hope,” he said, expressing sincere gratitude to the sponsors for their commitment to student welfare.

Ganthonuseyon Emmanuel, a 300-level Mechanical Engineering student, was encouraged to apply by the National Union of Lagos State Students (NULAS). Emmanuel, who supports his siblings after the loss of both parents, described the scholarship as “a true lifeline,” as it helps cover school fees and academic expenses. He expressed profound gratitude to Eko Club New York for easing his financial burden.

Balogun Aminat, a Food Science and Technology student, heard about the scholarship from the Head of Mechatronics, who encouraged students to apply. For Aminat, the scholarship provides essential financial relief for her parents. She shared that hearing positive feedback from past recipients motivated her to apply. “This scholarship will go toward my school fees and supplies,” she said, thanking Eko Club New York for their genuine support.

Mohammed Basua, a 300-level Accounting student, discovered the program through NULAS and felt it was a valuable opportunity for Lagos indigenes. Confident in his eligibility, Basua saw the scholarship as a chance for financial stability. He commended Eko Club New York for building such an initiative for Lagos youth and shared his hopes to one day give back to the community.

Bakare Bashir, a 300-level Computer Engineering student, was encouraged to apply by family and friends. “The scholarship eases my family’s financial pressure,” Bashir noted. He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the program’s administration, expressing his hope for the initiative to continue growing without any form of corruption.

Esther Olaoluwa, a 300-level Mass Communication student, said the straightforward application process motivated her to apply. “With simple requirements and a helpful scholarship amount, this opportunity was too valuable to pass up,” she shared, thanking Eko Club New York for making it possible.

Muritala Ajarat, also a 300-level Food Science and Technology student, learned about the scholarship from her department head. Hoping to reduce her mother’s financial burden, Ajarat applied enthusiastically, trusting in the program’s purpose. She expressed deep gratitude to Eko Club New York for the assistance.

This year’s recipients highlighted how Eko Club New York’s initiative has provided them with financial stability, enabling them to focus more on their studies.

FEDSA-LASUSTECH Assembly Suspends President for One Week Over Misconduct

Habeeb Ibrahim  The It’s Federation of Epe Division Student Divisional Representative Council (FEDSA-DRC) of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has suspended its president, Obadina Habeeb, for one week following alleged misconduct during a parliamentary session. The decision was made during the second physical sitting of the assembly, held on Wednesday, 29th of January, 2025. The suspension, effective immediately, was initially proposed for two weeks by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Edu Shaffi Oladehinde, and seconded by the Chief Press Secretary, Hon. Hassan Taiwo Bisiriyu.  However, Hon. Adelaja Azanat opposed the motion, advocating for a lighter punishment, which included a one-week suspension along with an apology letter.
