The Press Club in conjunction with the final year students of Mass Communication  department, held a media workshop training on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day.

The event, organized by the press club was held on Wednesday, at the Kakawa lecture room, tagged “MEDIA MARKET DYNAMICS” aimed to enhance the students on how to position their skills into good use.

The guest speaker at the event, MR Yinka Olaito, CEO  Africa Foundation for Young Media Professional, AFYMP, educated the students that writing skill alone is not enough to be successful in today’s media market you have to be dynamic.

“The media market is open but you must understand what you have and who needs what you have. Positioning is key in media market dynamics. 

“The media market gives you opportunity because there is liberalization in the market. This is an industry that allows you to be what you want to be.

“As long as you can think, the internet will give you chance. There is no skill you cannot learn online.

“You can create a content out of nothing. Things are going in the direction of the people that are serious” He said.

Mr. Yinka in his presentation further stated that the internet is limitless and determination is one of the keys that facilitates success.

“The market is open for everyone it is left for you to seizure the opportunity and make it profitable for you” He concluded. 

In his keynote speech, the press club president Adebayo Nurudeen gave a brief history of LASPOTECH Press Club stating the importance of the club to the institution.

DR Zannu Prosper,  HOD Mass Communication department was in attendance and emphasised that President Muhammadu Buhari insisted that all through his eight years in office, he never did anything to compromise the profession, but the press is yet to accept.


In his remarks, the staff adviser to the Press Club, Mr. Samuel Ogunsanya, charged the students to pay attention to the programme, saying it will have a positive impact on every Mass Communication student and the press club.

The purpose of the program is to enhance the student of what is ahead of them and how they can seizure opportunity he said.

Yusuf Esther, and HND 2 student in her presentation said  every May 3rd , is marked to celebrate the World Press  Freedom Day, since press is classify as the fourth arm of government and the watch dog of every government administration to bring balance to the society.

During the programme, Hassan Nurudeen Abiodun who anchored the programme charged the audience to observe a minute silence to pay tribute to Journalists who lost their lives in service.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns

The restriction led to confusion among students, who were subsequently directed by security personnel to use the Second Gate for entry into the campus. Speaking on the development, security officials disclosed that the action followed an incident that occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, when a tension wire was reportedly cut from a pole and fell directly at the entrance of First Gate. LASUSTECH Announces February 13, 2027, for Maiden Convocation

By Adetoyinbo Berachah The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has announced February 13, 2027, as the date for its maiden convocation. The announcement was made by the Director of Student Affairs (DSA), Dr. Ademola Aderogba, during the first engagement meeting of the 2025/2026 academic session. The meeting featured the introduction of Heads of Class (HOCs) and representatives from various departments. Dr. Aderogba addressed issues relating to the academic session and outlined expectations for students. He presented an overview of academic results across colleges and departments, noting variations in performance. Students were advised to ensure lecturers are invited for scheduled lectures.
