Lagos State Polytechnic students have lamented the timing of the buses donated by the Lagos State Governor- MR. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The governor donated four fairly-used buses to the school earlier this month, as part of fulfilling part of his pledges to the school.

It could be recalled that the Governor during a courtesy visit to the school last year, promised to provide means of transportation.

“I understand you need a means of transportation from the Ikorodu campus to isolo, by the end of September the buses will be here,” He said.

In a discussion with our correspondent Omoyeni, Oluwamuyiwa, a final-year student from the department of Business administration believes the donation has political motives.

“The Governor is persuading us to vote for him, it is political, after how many years, when it was time to vote,  to do what ?, not even new buses, we don’t need the buses and I am not moved,” she said.

Also,  a group of final-year students from the department of crop production  (names withheld)  said  “This is not the first time, a strategy like this has been used, we have been in the school for 5years and he didn’t deem it fit to give us the bus, he wants us to vote for him and his political father, the Jagaban”.

Speaking to Ajagbe abayomi sodiq, from the same department he believes the buses will be of great help to the institution but disagrees with the timing.

“ It will help in academic aspect, in terms of transportation to convey students coming from isolo, oshodi, but Why is he just delivering the bus? It is for the promotion of his party which is not right”. He said.

Meanwhile,  Emmanuel, an HND2 student of the Mechanical Engineering department, applauded it as a good idea but the timing is a bad one and the majority think it is a political agenda.

Ibraheem Ganiyu, an Hnd2 student from banking and finance also said “Inconveniency will be reduced, I don’t think there is any interior motive and I am glad he fulfilled his promises”.

On the state of the bus,  the school’s P.R.O, DR. Kuye expressed his gratitude for the Governor’s gesture.

“We should be grateful the Governor fulfilled his promises, whether new or not new, the buses belong to the state Government, the university belongs to the state government, it is just about passing a property from one sector to another”

“The bus will be used by all the students, both university students and polytechnic students belong to the state government,” He said.

In the same vein, the Students’ Union Government's PRO “Hassan Nurudeen” commented on the state of the buses.

“The buses are to serve the purposes of conveying students for their academic and special assignments.

“It is above average, in a good condition and not being new doesn’t depict it is badly used, Check the windows, they are clean, and they are well fixed ” He stated.

However, it was confirmed that the 29-sitting capacity bus is not a new one, it has been used for rallies and contains stickers of the governor and his deputy.
