The Department of Computer Science has earned a spot in the Semi-Final following a  4-0 trashing of Crop Production Technology at the ongoing SUG Cup.

Following a dominant display, Awolesi Adeola’s brace and two other goals ensured Computer Science scale through to the last four in style.

The game started on a brighter note for the team in green as they  secured an early lead in the first half. Both teams were, however, at loggerhead after the goal till the blow of the halftime whistle.

Few minutes into the second half, Computer Science found the back of the net to double the lead, but the goal was claimed to be offside, leading to a long delay before the referee finally awarded the goal.

Meanwhile, Computer Science continued their dominant display which paid off with another goal from Awolesi. The  winger had capitalized on a free kick from his teammate to slot in the third goal of the match.

With  time fast ticking away, another build up to goal emerged as Crop Production Technology defenders scampered to their box to avoid another humiliation. They were, however, unable to prevent their opponent who lashed home the fourth goal.

Speaking after the match, Crop Production Technology midfielder, Raji Oluwatoyin, commended the effort of his side while also pointing out the flaws that Les to their defeat.

“We really tried. But the flaw I saw was that we were not a team. It is just a departmental competition and we never knew one another early enough. Even if we trained for one month, that doesn’t mean we should fully know one another. But let’s play for the love of football and for the love of our department.” He said.

On the controversial goal, Raji blamed  poor officiating for the goal.

“There’s nothing we can do to that. It’s as a result of poor officiating. Everything about the county is poor.” He added.

On the other hand, Computer Science Head Coach, Oladipupo Abdulateef, lauded the performance of his team despite the attempt of their to clamp them down.

“Our team performance is hundred percent. We’ve always give a hundred although our opponent tried to perform some gimmicks which we all can see. You know how long we were delayed, but thank God.” He said.

The head coach, however, played down the controversy surrounding the second goal as he claimed that the referee already awarded the goal.
