2022 SUG Cup: Computer Science earns Semi-Final spot after four goals trashing of Crop Production Technology

The
Department of Computer Science has earned a spot in the Semi-Final following
a 4-0 trashing of Crop Production Technology
at the ongoing SUG Cup.
Following
a dominant display, Awolesi Adeola’s brace and two other goals ensured Computer
Science scale through to the last four in style.
The
game started on a brighter note for the team in green as they secured an early lead in the first half. Both
teams were, however, at loggerhead after the goal till the blow of the halftime
whistle.
Few minutes into the second half, Computer Science found the back of the net to double the lead, but the goal was claimed to be offside, leading to a long delay before the referee finally awarded the goal.
Meanwhile,
Computer Science continued their dominant display which paid off with another
goal from Awolesi. The winger had
capitalized on a free kick from his teammate to slot in the third goal of the
match.
With time fast ticking away, another build up to
goal emerged as Crop Production Technology defenders scampered to their box to
avoid another humiliation. They were, however, unable to prevent their opponent
who lashed home the fourth goal.
Speaking
after the match, Crop Production Technology midfielder, Raji Oluwatoyin,
commended the effort of his side while also pointing out the flaws that Les to
their defeat.
“We
really tried. But the flaw I saw was that we were not a team. It is just a
departmental competition and we never knew one another early enough. Even if we
trained for one month, that doesn’t mean we should fully know one another. But
let’s play for the love of football and for the love of our department.” He
said.
On
the controversial goal, Raji blamed poor
officiating for the goal.
“There’s
nothing we can do to that. It’s as a result of poor officiating. Everything
about the county is poor.” He added.
On
the other hand, Computer Science Head Coach, Oladipupo Abdulateef, lauded the
performance of his team despite the attempt of their to clamp them down.
“Our
team performance is hundred percent. We’ve always give a hundred although our
opponent tried to perform some gimmicks which we all can see. You know how long
we were delayed, but thank God.” He said.
The
head coach, however, played down the controversy surrounding the second goal as
he claimed that the referee already awarded the goal.
