EducationUSA - Gateway to Graduate Opportunities
EducationUSA promotes U.S. higher education to students by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States to highly qualified students from wealthy and low-income families alike. Funded by the U.S. Department of State, EducationUSA is your official source on U.S. higher education.
The U.S. is home to many of the world’s most prestigious universities and hosts more international students than any other country in the world. Nigeria leads student mobility in Sub-Sharan Africa, with over 13,700 Nigerians currently studying in the U.S., placing Nigeria first in the region and eleventh in the world. EducationUSA serves as your home base as you research institutions that match your study interests and can provide guidance as you search for scholarships.
While EducationUSA assists with both undergraduate and graduate study, most Nigerians seek assistance with graduate study. The main graduate degrees in the United States are the master’s degree and the doctoral degree. Both involve a combination of research and coursework. Graduate school in the U.S. is characterized by in-depth training and specialized instruction.
Graduate school provides research and funding opportunities, especially for Science Technology Engineering Mathematics – STEM majors. There are many types of funding available for students, and the most accessible ones are research and teaching assistantships.
Through our Opportunity Funds Program, we identify academically talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, assist them in strengthening their applications, and provide them with guidance on securing assistantship positions that fund their graduate studies.
To be eligible for graduate study in the U.S., you should have a bachelor’s degree. Along with the degree you will typically need to provide:
