In the wake of the molestation of Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) officials alleged to have been carried out by the striking Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Lagos State Polytechnic chapter,
the school management has announced its efforts to bring to book the perpetrators of
this "act of barbarism".
Two JAMB officials who were carrying
out their duties at the institution and the Polytechnic's director of ICT were
reportedly molested by the non-teaching staff of the institution.
The management, through a press
release signed by the Deputy Registrar, Public Relations Unit, Mr Olanrewaju Kuye, apologized to JAMB officials for the assault and has also ascertained
that those involved will be made to face the wrath of the law.
The press release reads in part
"While the Polytechnic condemns
this act of barbarism, we are using this medium to assure the Registrar of JAMB
and indeed, the entire Nigerians that the Lagos State Government and the
Polytechnic management are already addressing the issue and that the Police is
on top of the matter.
"All those involved are
definitely going to face the full wrath of the law."
However, the aggrieved staff Unions have come out to deny the accusations describing it as a “blatant lie and a figment of the imagination of whoever is behind such report.”

Recall that in January 2019, The
Non-Academic Staff Union of Lagos State Polytechnic laid siege on the Council
Chambers of the Polytechnic in a bid to air their grievances over what they
claim to be the demigration of staff salaries.
The union has since then been on
strike but promised not to cause any chaos during the examination of the full
time students.
A week after the examinations, NASU
swung back into action, shutting all the gates leading into the Polytechnic. It
was reported that people had to scale the walls to exit the institution.
Although the management claims they
are only following the dictates of the law, according to CONTISS 15 migration,
the union are aggrieved as effecting this law means a reduction in their
salaries.
The case which was heard on Monday by
the National Industrial Court, has been adjourned to June 18, 2019. The
presiding Judge, Hon. Justice E. A. Oji urged the aggrieved union to maintain
peace and not obstruct official activities till the next hearing.
