Students storm IKEDC Office, lament over unstable power supply (Watch Video below)

Students of Lagos State University of Science and Technology have stormed Ikeja Electric Distribution Company Lasunwon Undertaken Office over unstable power supply to the school’s first gate community.

Led by the Students Union Government President, Comr. Balogun Aderemi and the majority leader of the Students Representative Council, Hon. Sodiq Adam, the students expressed their grievance over the unstable power supply.

With first semester examination set to commence on the 14th of June, the students yearned for stable power supply at the community as Aluta chant rented the air while the protest lasted.

The students were, however, denied access into the premises as officials locked the gate against them.

In reaction, the aggrieved students, who claimed to have come for a peaceful discussion with the officials, slammed the gate shut with padlocks after several requests for access.

It took the intervention of the Baale of First Gate, Shodipo Taiwo (Obenke), who pleaded with the students having commended the action.

The Community leader also decried the unstable nature of power supply in the community while assuring the students of quick resolution of the problem.

“Your reaction is a welcome development as the unstable condition of our power supply is worth reacting to. But I’ll urge you to exercise patience in the cause of reacting.” The community leader said.

Meanwhile, the SUG President revealed that the Union had a discussion with the IKEDC officials last month over the problem which they promised to rectify giving reasons for the cause of the instability of power supply.

“Sometimes around last month, I went there with two other executives for a peaceful talk. They gave a promise to rectify the issue the same day I went there. But they didn’t fulfill their part of the promise” He said

The officials, according to the President, identified collapse of poles due to rain and the breakdown of the national grid as reasons for the instability.

Following Baale’s plea, the students dispersed from the Undertaken Office but vowed to return if the electricity problem remains unaddressed.
