Student Of The Department Of Mass Communication Have Been Enlighten On Career Specifications In Their Chosen Endeavour.

The Mass Communication department at Lagos State University of Science and Technology organized a seminar at PE 101 in the Ikorodu campus. The event aimed to inform returning students about career specifications and choices in their chosen field.

The event featured senior lecturers in the department, including the Head of Department, Dr. Prosper Zannu, Mr. Sammy Ogunsanya, Mr. Olugbenga Akanmu, Mr. Bidemi Balogun, Mrs. Olayinka Idowu, Mr. Hassan Nurudeen, Mr. Agogo, Mrs. Bridget, and the host, Mr. Ibrahim Fatoyinbo.


Mrs. Olayinka Idowu, the Course Advisor, introduced the students to the purpose of the seminar, advising them to make wise choices as these decisions would be irreversible. She informed the students about the available sequences: Print and Journalism, Broadcast and Film, and Public Relations and Advertising.

Idowu emphasized that she would oversee the selection, and registration would be on a first-come, first-served basis when students visit her office.

The Head of Department, Dr. Prosper Zannu, stressed the importance of making thoughtful choices, highlighting that Mass Communication is the department with the largest number of students in the institution. The department's reorganization aims to enhance students' abilities in their respective majors, a directive from the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya.

Dr. Zannu also emphasized the implementation of a mandatory dress code for all students in the department and the requirement of a 75% attendance rate before taking exams.


Mr. Sammy Ogunsanya focused on educating students about the Print and Journalism option, explaining the significance of journalism and the power it holds. He urged students to discover their unique strengths and advised them to choose a sequence that aligns with their skills.

Ogunsanya further explained that print journalism involves the ability to write poems, rhymes, prose, and drama. He encouraged students with potential to improve themselves by selecting the right sequence that aligns with their skills.

Moreover, he highlighted that journalists can work in various fields, including advertising agencies, broadcast stations, newspaper organizations, and magazines. Journalists have the opportunity to meet reputable individuals and gain exposure while fulfilling the responsibility of conveying information to the audience.

Lastly, he emphasized that journalism is not solely about writing; it also caters to students with a flair for photography and an aptitude for interpreting visual information.

Mrs. Olayinka Idowu addressed students on the Broadcast and Film sequence, emphasizing that it includes radio and television presentation. She assured students that practical aspects would be taken seriously, considering the institution's focus on science and technology.


Mr. Bidemi Balogun enlightened students about the Public Relations and Advertising (PRAD) segment of Mass Communication. He explained that PR involves personal and brand branding and packaging, while PR officers are responsible for product and people management.

Balogun further elaborated on advertising as the profession of producing advertisements for commercial products and services. He emphasized the importance of advertising agents who interact with people, services, and products. Balogun assured students that success in various disciplines requires hard work, especially for those interested in self-employment and independence as PR officers.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Head of Course, Hon. Kayode Bukola. She thanked the lecturers for holding such an educative seminar.

Students Barred from LASUSTECH First Gate Over Safety Concerns

By Habeeb Ibrahim and Adefeso Precious Students of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) were on Monday morning restricted from accessing the campus through the First Gate, tagged as West Gate 1, due to safety concerns. The restriction led to confusion among students, who were subsequently directed by security personnel to use the Second Gate for entry into the campus. Speaking on the development, security officials disclosed that the action followed an incident that occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, when a tension wire was reportedly cut from a pole and fell directly at the entrance of First Gate. According to the security personnel, the fallen wire posed a potential risk of injury, electric shock, or sparks to students and other individuals passing through the gate.
