The Management of Lagos State University of Science and Technology has shut down its Secondary school over the death of one of its students.

In a letter addressed to the general public yesterday and confirmed by the school Public Relations Officer, Dr. Olanrewaju Kuye, the school management made known the decision to shut down the school over the death of 16-year old Dauda Abdulrahmon who was knocked down by a vehicle outside the school premises last month.

While the closure lasts with no resumption date in view, the students are to be engaged in online learning as the management seek to restructure and reposition the school.

“In view of the unfortunate incident that recently occurred at Lagos State University of Science and Technology International Secondary School (LISS) which claimed the life of a student, the Management of Lagos State University of Science and Technology wishes to inform the general public that the school has been closed forthwith.

“During this period, students will be engaged with on-line learning. The period of closure will be used to restructure and reposition the school.” The letter read.

The late Abdulrahmon met his untimely death few days after he allegedly gave his asthmatic colleague in school sniffed a chemical composition which made the later passed out during birthday celebration of one of his SS2 classmates at the Chemistry Laboratory.

According to the school management, Abdulrahmon’s parents were summoned to a meeting with the Principal over the incident.

Their failure to show up led to the dismissal of Abdulrahmon from class three days after with the Principal alleged to be bent on punishing him.

In his attempt to escape punishment, he absconded the principal’s office, bursting out of the school gate, and unfortunately rammed by an oncoming vehicle.
