Management embarks on fumigation and de-rating exercise as Ileya break commences

  • Exercise started at Surulere and Isolo campuses on Friday
  • Officers to be delegated to monitor exercise at sensitive offices

The management of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (formerly Laspotech) has embarked on fumigation and de-rating exercise across its Ikorodu main campus as the 2-day Ileya break announced by the Federal Government commences.

Prior to the end of work on Friday, copies of the institution’s weekly newsflash containing information on the fumigation exercise from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations were circulated across offices.

As contained in a report published in the newsflash, members of staff were instructed to drop their office keys at the end work for the day ahead of the exercise.

“All members of staffs are enjoined to drop their office keys with the security or in the case of sensitive offices, delegate an officer that will be physically present on the day for seamless and effective fumigation and de-rating of our campuses.” The report read.

However, the exercise had kick-started at the Surulere and Isolo campuses since Friday while the Ikorodu main campus was slated for today.

While the fumigation exercise can be considered as an approach to get rid of pests such as bugs, insects, and rats, the de-rating exercise, according to UK-based SunPower Electronics, entails when a system or component is operated below its normal operating limit for the purpose of reducing the operating temperature of the components for sustainability and longevity.

This implies that electrical appliances and power generating machines across the campus will barely be in operation till the end of the exercise.

Meanwhile, effort to reach out to the Public Relations Officer of the institution proved abortive on account of the Ileya break.
