Ashuike Esther

If you recall the day you got your admission letter, I am pretty sure that moment of excitement and joy will bring a grin to your face.

While some considered getting admitted as a form of escape, others perceived it as that ticket to chop school life. But with a semester gone now, you surely have tasted a douse of Laspostress- our very own version of anxiety.

Endless fees, assignments, and examination fear has created anxiety in most of us, making us wish to step in a time-machine and teleport to sign-out day.

Basically, as a higher institution student, you are prone to facing a lot of challenges which would birth anxiety. Attempts to meet up with school expenses and endless demands may get you off balance amid ceaseless questions – “when is the deadline”, “which Practical are we to do?” “how much is it? ” “what time?” “where?”

Subconsciously, these affect the psychological state of most students where they find it difficult to communicate and barely participate in class- even to speak in front of the class.

Notable contributor to students' anxiety is the poor economy of Nigeria, which has transform diligent and delightful students to the opposite on account of the monetary cost of doing assignments and purchasing textbooks. With Sapa looking straight at you in the eyeball, anxiety may creep in through your blindspot.

Consequentially, academic performance gets affected as you tend to become absent minded during lectures, making subconscious movement such as shaking of hands and feet, twirling of hair and tapping of fingers.

If this continues it will cause the brain to release stress hormones on a regular basis which might result to low self esteem, depression, poor self care, dizziness, social behavioral problem and headaches. These are practically the symptoms of “Anxiety”.

However, you can get rid of this anxious feelings by talking openly about how you feel and taking a break.

While deep breath proves to be helpful, healthy eating should also be imbibed for positive energy.

Lastly, sharing experiences should be done too to eradicate anxiety- though not completely, but gradually.
