“We’ve Paid for Your Medical Treatments” – LASUSTECH VC Urges Students to Use Health Insurance  By Ademuyiwa   Balikis, Odelusi Abraham The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, has urged students to take advantage of the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme, saying the university pays an annual premium on their behalf to ensure access to medical care. Professor Odusanya made this known on Thursday during a sensitization program on the Ilera Eko initiative, organized by the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) at the LASUSTECH campus in Ikorodu. "Prevention is better, faster, more effective, and cheaper than cure," he said. "Each year, we pay a premium for students to access medical care at accredited healthcare providers. Oro Festival: LASUSTECH to Close Campus on Tuesday, May 27 Over Safety Concerns

By Ademuyiwa Balikis and Habeeb Ibrahim  In anticipation of the upcoming Oro Festival scheduled to hold in Ikorodu and surrounding areas on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the management of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has announced that the university will close for physical activities on that day. According to a statement signed by the university management, the closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff, especially females, during the cultural event which traditionally restricts the movement of women. “All students of the University are advised to stay off campus and remain indoors on that day,” the statement reads. The university further noted that female staff members who feel unsafe coming to work are permitted to work remotely from home. Tragedy in Ikorodu: 19-Year-Old Girl Dies by Suicide After UTME Disappointment, Receives Admission Email Minutes Later

A 19-year-old girl, Opesusi Faith Timilehin, tragically ended her life in Ikorodu, Lagos State, after receiving a disappointing score of 190 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The incident took place on Monday in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, where Faith had been residing with her elder sister. Originally from Abeokuta, Faith was known by family and neighbors as a calm and respectful young woman with big dreams for her future. She had planned to study Microbiology and had high hopes for her UTME results. However, when she saw her score of 190, which she felt was a setback compared to her performance the previous year, she became deeply distressed. A close friend of Faith revealed that she had compared her current results to those of the previous year, feeling they fell short of expectations.
